Math: Marshmallow Shapes

C. Supplies Needed
2 bags of mini marshmallows
2 bags pretzel sticks
Paper towel
Baby wipes
Sides and vertices worksheet
Promethean board

D. Procedure1. Have the students wipe their desks off with a baby wipe and then
throw it away and come sit on the rug.
2. Explain that they will be working with food but they cannot eat it

because we will be making shapes with it. Demonstrate how to


make a triangle with the marshmallows and pretzel sticks.
3. Send them back to their seats and give all the students a handful
of pretzel sticks and marshmallows.
4. Have the students build a triangle first then square, rectangle,
and circle. Put each word on the board with a picture when you
are working on it.
5. Once you have gotten through all the shapes have the students
complete the sides and vertices worksheet to check their
understanding and then collect it for a grade.
