The Course and the Guidelines for Students
Introduction:
In their professional career engineers are required to deal with human beings and their
groups. With the industrial growth in the country and the world over there will be an
increasing demand for behavioral sciences such as psychology (Human Behavior) and
sociology so as to effectively manage engineering and technological organizations. HM321
fulfils this requirement by equipping the students with the necessary basic and applied
concepts of psychology and sociology.
Objectives (Human Behavior)
To enable the students to:

Understand the working of human mind and behaviour


Develop understanding of perception
Understand and apply motivation and learning in work situations.
Comprehend the concepts and theories of leadership
Understand the modern concepts of organizational behaviour
Understand the growing importance of human engineering

Objectives (Sociology)
To enable the students to:

Understand the cultural context


Comprehend the role of personality in socialization
Understand groups and associations
Appreciate the role and importance of social classes
Understand collective behaviour and social movements

Core Topics of the Course (Human Behaviour)


Introduction to psychology, perception, motivation, leadership, organizational behaviour,
human engineering.

Introduction to sociology, society and the individual, personality, groups and group
dynamics, social class, crowd behavior, social movements.
Instructional strategies
The following instructional strategies will be used: lectures, question-answer sessions, group
discussions, brainstorming, problem-solving.
For active learning your participation in the class is important. This includes your regular
attendance, asking and answering relevant questions, and encouraging others in class
participation.
Mandatory attendance:
75% class attendance is statutory / mandatory requirement of Pakistan Engineering Council
(PEC). However, near 100% attendance is expected by GIK Institute.
