RESOLUTION TO APPOINT ASSOCIATE JUSTICES OF THE STUDENT BODY

SUPREME COURT

1 WHEREAS, The Student Body Supreme Court fulfills important constitutional duties in an
2 effort to further the goals and ideals of the Indiana University Student Association; and,

4 WHEREAS, Due to the completed resignations of former Associate Justices Devin Carpenter,
5 Austin Hall, Sean Kelley, and Weston Macklem the Court currently has four vacancies; and,
6
7 WHEREAS, The Student Body Supreme Court must have all eleven members present and
8 active in order to effectively conduct its own internal business, as well as its role in various
9 university committees, hearings, and functions; and,
10
11 WHEREAS, The Student Body Supreme Court spent a large amount of time and energy during
12 the spring of this year reviewing applications and conducting thorough interviews; and,
13
14 WHEREAS, The members of the Student Body Supreme Court have recommended four
15 students to fill the open Associate Justice seats of the Student Body Supreme Court; and,
16
17 WHEREAS, The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, has approved this recommendation and
18 forwarded the same candidates to the Student Body President; and,
19
20 WHEREAS, The Student Body President has approved the same candidates; and,
21
22 WHEREAS, Pursuant to Article IV, Section 1 of the Indiana University Student Association
23 Constitution, justices of the Student Body Supreme Court must be “appointed by the President
24 and confirmed by the Congress;”
25
26 THERFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED, That the following students be confirmed by a
27 majority vote of the Indiana University Student Association Congress as Associate Justices of
28 the Student Body Supreme Court:
