ABOUT THE SNOW
LEOPARDS
There are 6,590 snow leopards left
in existence. Snow leopards live in
the mountains of Tibet & the
Himalayas in Central Asia. Snow
leopards have long dens fur and
wooly under fur. Snow leopards can
become pregnant for 90-100 days
then give birth to 2-5 cubs. Cubs can
reach sexual maturity in 2 years.
Snow Leopards eat wild prey like
boars,hares,phesant and sheep.
They also eat domestic animalds like
goats,dogs,, and chickens

What is threatening snow


leopards

Snow Leopards are seen as pests by mountain men who are raising livestock
and often are killed by the herders. Snow leopards are also poached for their
expensive fur and for body parts used in traditional chinese medicine. They are
also endangered due to loss of habitat and large mammal prey
Why snow leopards are important
Snow leopards are important for the enviroment because they
are the apex predators of their location. They eat sheep and
goats which helps prevent overgrazing and preserves the
vegetation for other herbivores and medication for humans.

What is being done for snow leopards


A organization named WWF is working with local communities to build leopard
proof livestock pens and compensate farmers whose livestock have been eaten
by leopards.They also work with another organization named TRAFFIC that
make investigations on illegal trades.
