NBC Footsteps Virtue Wk 4 : Serving

At New Brighton Catholic School we are serving.
Using our gifts to help others is following in the footsteps of Jesus.
Serving is giving to others and wanting to make a difference in the
lives of others. Helping other people is one of the best ways to serve
God. Each day there are many ways we can be serving to others.
Can I help you with that problem? What help do you need? What
can I do? In our Young Vinnies group we serve those who may not
have a home or may be unwell. With our buddies we look after and
help those children who are new in our school. We notice what
others need and act in a helpful way. We dont wait to be asked. We
give our very best effort. People who want to be of service can
change the world.
Be fair to others and make this world a better place. God will bless you.
If you see someone being treated unfairly, go to help them. God will bless you.
If you see someone in need, share with them what you have. God will bless you.
Isaiah 58: 6-8

Parent Teacher Interviews note: school finishes early

This year we will have two opportunities for formal meetings. The first:
Monday 22 February 2-5pm/Tuesday 23 February 2-6.30 pm
This is an opportunity for parents to discuss their desires and goals for their
children for 2016. What do you wish to see your child achieve? We
encourage your child to be with you so they know we are a partnership in
their education. If you need a personal word with the teacher, just ask your
child to give you a minute. This is a first come first in booking system, so
go ahead and book your interview asap.
Go to: www.schoolinterviews.co.nz
enter school code: 9RRSH

If you dont have online access, please see your childs teacher to make an

after at school until 2.45pm when the programme starts.
(Rm 4s interviews are on Tuesday and Wednesday as advised by email.)
The second opportunity will be child-led interviews in Wk 8 T2.
Please remember that you are welcome to make an appointment any time
during the year to discuss your childs progress.

Year 7/8 Technology starts on Monday 22 February, so

although school finishes at 2 pm, our Yr 7/8 students will not
be back at school until approx. 3 pm.

Food and the effects on Your Brain
Food is one of those things we often associate with learning,
however it often plays a bigger part in the learning process than you
may think.
Childrens blood sugar levels cycle every 45 minutes. (In adults
its every 90 minutes.) So 45 minutes after a child has eaten,
their blood sugar levels will be at a low. There are definitely
strong links between efficient learning and good nutrition. But
what foods are brain foods? Carbohydrates such as fruits and
vegetables are useful to maintain blood sugar levels in students,
however the brain uses protein directly. Ideal protein foods are
fish, chicken, dairy products, eggs and nuts. A balance of these
foods is ideal, with a slant towards the carbohydrates as these
also lower anxiety and enable calm and confident learning to
take place.
