IIM Ranchi Welcomes its New Director

It was a momentous occasion for all concerned
when Dr. Anindya Sen,
the new Director of IIM
Ranchi took the podium
to address his students
for the first time at IIM
Ranchi. Dr. Sen, who is a
distinguished academician in the field of Economics and a professor at
IIM Calcutta will be
heading IIM Ranchi
from now on, leading it
towards a new horizon of
glory and excellence.

The students at IIM Ranchi

decided to welcome their
new Director with an interactive batch meeting with
all the students of IIM
Ranchi. The event commenced with a short address by Chetan Ingaleshwar, the President of
the Student Council, introducing the Director to the
batch. This was followed
by a speech by Parijat
Gaur, the Class Representative of the HR batch,
where he beautifully illustrated IIM Ranchis journey
through the years. Adarsh
K A M, Literary Club Executive, carried forward the
event by highlighting the
achievements and glories
amassed by the students of
this institute thus far.
The stage was then perfectly set for Dr. Sen to take

about himself to the batch.
Professor Sen talked about
the plans ahead and how it
was absolutely necessary
for the students to carry on
the legacy of IIM Ranchi
by putting in hard work
and passion in curricular as
well as extra-curricular
activities. He went on to
further talk about how he
was confident that IIM
Ranchi would shine
through despite having
infrastructural constraints.
Dr. Sen promised to fast
track the process of building a permanent campus by
clearing all impending bottlenecks in a systematic
manner. He implored the
students to make full use of
their time at such a prestigious institute as the learning would have a bearing
on their entire lives. He
cautioned the students to
not be limited by myopic

short term goals and encouraged them to be visionary leaders capable of

taking the world forward.
The event was aptly concluded with a vote of
thanks read out by Abhishek Praveen, member of
the Student Council. This
welcoming ceremony energized all members present
to work harder in order to
help IIM Ranchi scale new

'Mahindra War Room' was created.
Mahindra War Room, first commissioned in 2007, is Mahindra's
spearhead campaign, rolled out
in top Business Schools in India,
to create excitement and transform perceptions, while attracting and engaging top notch Bschool talent to creatively respond to live and realistic business issues through a fair and
rigorous process of evaluation. Students form 4-member
teams to solve these challenging
caselets and generate realistic
solutions in six months of intense planning and execution.

Like every year, this year also

Mahindra War Room saw significant participation from IIM
Ranchi. Last year the IIM Underdogs from IIM Ranchi became champions of Mahindra
War Room. This year their legacy was kept alive by the IIM
Ranchi Carpet Bombers who
blew the judges minds in the
North Zone round of Mahindra
War Room. The Carpet Bombers proposed a very innovative
solution for Mahindras caselet
on after-market of cars. The
team consisting of Ron Babu
John, Krunal Patel, Abhijoy
Sarkar and Nitin Ningaiah went
on to become the champions of
North Zone, Mahindra War
Room 2014. But they were not
the only team from IIM Ranchi
to shine bright. Bhavana Pandey,
from team Recycleables, IIM
Ranchi was awarded the title of
Best Presenter. Her team created
a solution for the caselet
Namaste which dealt with

tradition of excellence at different pan-India competitions
through talent, hard work and

Indian Institute of Management
Ranchi embraced PM Narendra
Modis Swachcha Bharat Abhiyaan with great passion and
zeal. Swachcha Bharat Abhiyaan, the recent ruling of the
HRD Ministry on cleanliness
drives in organizations inspired
Samarpan, IIM Ranchis Corporate Social Responsibility club
to join this national initiative.
Rather aptly, the club initiated
the drive on 2nd of October,
Mahatma Gandhis 145th
birthday.
The drive began with a pledge
on cleanliness. As a part of
the campaign, students, faculty and staff of IIM Ranchi
took an oath to clean the
college and hostel premises.
The drive saw the students
taking brooms and buckets to
dirty fields and corners.
In the coming months IIM
Ranchi will conduct various
events and drives through

awareness on cleanliness,
sanitation and public hy-

village in and around Ranchi to
create awareness among people
and specially the school-going
kids through nukkad natak, flash
mobs and various inter B-School
competition on the theme of
sanitation.
Since its inception, IIM Ranchi

has been associated with activities that aim for inclusive growth

Being a part of Swachcha Bharat Abhiyaan further strengthens this mission of the institute

with the extensive support of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Government of Jharkhand, working under the guidance of Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
We started at a time when competition and aggression was prevalent in management education. Understanding the need to incorporate right values in young minds, IIMR was started to incorporate right values in

Letter from the Editor

Change is the only constant
We are continuously floating on
a sea of change. Sometimes we
drift with the flow of the tide
and sometimes we fight against
it. But almost all the time, we
are moving. There is never a
stationary moment, never any
respite from the swaying motions.
Change is inevitable. The seasons change in a never ending
cycle and so do our lives. In
this fast paced world, we barely
have time to collect our
thoughts before we are swept
away by the next tide. Societies
transform, empires topple, governments are replaced and we
say that there has been a
change. But is it a positive or a

negative change? Who decides?

Are we worthy of judging the
nature of this change? Do we
even feel a difference? All that
was before is history, and all
that is now is uncertainty.
But, what we achieve before the
impending transition remains
immortal and the direction of
transformation is in our own
hands. Change is an inflection
point where one entity ends
and another begins. Thus
change is not just the mourning
of a great loss; it is also a celebration of new beginnings.
This past month IIM Ranchi
has witnessed a plethora of
changes. Under new leadership,
the young fledglings have taken
over the responsibilities held by
great stalwarts. They have

bright eyes and bright ideas, yet

they still seek the wisdom and
guidance of their predecessors.
In congruence with this change,
this magazine is also entering a
new chapter, led by new editors. IIM Ranchis Literary Club
is proud to take the Parable
legacy forward. We thank our
colleagues of the Media PR Cell
for establishing such standards
of excellence.
