Governor Brewer:

On your desk is a bill, SB 1070 that if signed into or allowed to become

law would have a catastrophic affect for this state. Many believe that SB
1070 will codify racial profiling, forcing all citizens of Arizona, regardless
of race, to be prepared to show documentation proving that they are a
citizen.

Proponents ofSB 1070 say that the measure will protect the public's
safety. How can anyone be safe when everyone is targeted under this bill,
something that a former Eastern-bloc, communist-nation had on their
books to instill fear in its citizens? Is this what Arizona and this nation
stands for?

In your State of the State address this year Governor Brewer, you had
committed $20,000,000 to go for law enforcement which hadn't been
allocated and yet, SB 1070, an unfunded mandate, could be the newest
state statute, with no funding-mechanism to hire more staff, to train current
law enforcement on the measure and providing the equipment and
materials necessary to enforce. How can the state government explain
this?

When the employers sanction bill became law, state revenues dropped
dramatically? Can Arizona afford another reduction in sales tax revenues
due to a politically expedient measure such as SB 1070?

In the past, during the Martin Luther King (MLK) holiday controversy,
through the actions of politically, ideologically-driven zealots, the state
became a national embarrassment and suffered through an economic
boycott over a similarly divisive measure as SB 1070 now sits

I implore you to not let SB 1070 become the law, either through your
signature or allowing it to go into effect. Let's continue work together as L
Arizonans to build a better state as we approach our Centennial as part of
these United States.
