Super Six Comprehension

Somewhere in Australia
In term 1, students will be introduced to the super six comprehension strategies (Predicting, Monitoring,
Visualising, Connecting, Summarising and Questioning). They will be studying the text Somewhere in Australia
for Weeks 1-8 (with the possibly of extending through to the end of term) and, each week, they will be reading
the book for a different purpose. That is, one week a group of students may be learning about the Predicting
strategy so that is all they will be asked to be thinking about while reading the book. They will then complete a
guided activity that is directly related to the strategy they are focusing on for that lesson. The following week
the group will work with another teacher and be exposed to another strategy. Students will remain in the same
group for the whole term but rotate around to all three teachers.
Each week, students will be given the opportunity to return books and browse and borrow new books. Each
group of students will be allocated a time during the lesson for this to happen. Each teacher will be responsible
for coordinating this procedure for their group.
