Project Overview

I have chosen to re-design our 4-K classroom. A wonderful

space has become vacant in our building and we will be
converting this area into a new, exciting 4-K space. It will be like
working with a blank canvas!
Our current area is 450 sq. feet. Although the room is licensed
for 12 students, by the time we put all the equipment, stations,
materials, students and teacher in the room, it becomes awfully
cramped.
There are no sinks or bathrooms in the classroom and the
cubbies are too high for the kids to reach without a stool. Little
storage has the teacher having to leave the room to get supplies
and its just a challenge to make the area flow.
Thus, these and other issues have affected our rating from
ECERS.
The new area will consist of 800 sq. feet which will house the
new 4-K classroom, 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette, a self-contained
cubby and a shared teachers resource room.
The kitchenette will consist of a refrigerator, micro-wave and
sink for prepping snacks. A sink will be provided in the art area
for extra washing space. The cubbies will have access from
classroom with reachable cubbies plus benches to make getting
dressed for outside time, a little easier. The shared resource room
will be equipped with computer, planning area, supplies and
literature and will accessible from the classroom thus allowing the
teaching staff to be in the room at all times.
The plan will have to be approved by my licensor and a
building permit will be required before the onset of the project.
I feel truly excited at the chance to create a bright, new space
for educating the children in my area! With all the marvelous
information I have gathered throughout these courses and
everyday experiences, I feel I am more than ready to begin this
project!
