Dear BR Elementary Parents,

Id like to start by saying THANK YOU for being so patient during this first year as a new elementary
school. As with anything new, there are a lot of things that need to be figured out as we go through these
new experiences.
My goal is to have policies that are fair to everyone involved. Below you will find a revised tardy policy
that we feel is both fair and firm. Please take a moment to read the amended policy.
EXPECTATIONS:
7:30 a.m.: Breakfast is served in the Lyceum
7:45 a.m.: Elementary doors open
8:00 a.m.: Carline Closes/School begins; students in the classroom, ready to learn.
After 8:00am, parents must bring their student into the Elementary Main Office for a tardy pass.
8:00 a.m.: Teachers start marking students tardy if they are not in their classrooms.
3:10 p.m.: Dismissal (please pick up your child/ren promptly after school let outs)
Black River Elementary Tardy Policy
CONSEQUENCES FOR EXCEEDING PERMISSIBLE TARDIES (Per Semester):
5th Tardy: E-mail to parents from the Administrative Staff regarding future consequences for
accumulating more tardies.
8th Tardy: Phone call home as a reminder that at 10 tardies the student will receive a discipline referral
and serve a detention with Mr. Jim.
10th Tardy: ALL STUDENTS will receive a discipline referral to document the attendance pattern and a
before school detention with Mr. Jim. After 10 tardies, the number tardies will be reset to zero and the
student will be given a fresh start.
Detentions will be served on Thursdays from 7:15am-7:45am in the Elementary Conference room.
A mandatory before school parent & student meeting will be required if a student misses their
assigned detention without a valid reason. If there is a valid reason, a detention may be made up on
the following Thursday.
Thank you for the guidance you give as your child sets lifelong attendance habits.
