Overview & Purpose

Education Standards Addressed

Students will learn and understand the consequences of drinking and the
negative effects of alcohol that is not presented in advertisements. Students
will learn about common myths about drinking and the advertisements that
support these myths. This lesson is useful because it allows students to learn
about the harsh truths and realities of drinking alcohol.

family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other
factors on health behaviors.

Standard 8: Students will demonstrate the ability

Students will learn about the negative consequences of alcohol use and how society promotes
drinking as a positive and fun activity. Students will begin to learn and understand the false
messages about drinking and the truth of how alcohol negatively affects a person physically,
emotionally, and mentally. An essential question: Why do alcohol advertisements present
alcohol in such a desirable way? Why are advertisements focused on a younger audience?

- Give handout to students to fill out and discuss- Fact or Fiction Alcohol
Edition.

-Have quick discussion on students response to watching the video.
-Introduce activity and give directions.
-Activity should teach students helpful information on the negative risks of
drinking alcohol.

-End lesson with the student assessment (ticket out the door).
