Organization Structure

of the Department of
Education Field Offices

Governance of basic education begins at


the national level. Section 2 RA No. 9155
stipulates that it is at regions, divisions,
schools, and learning centers, referred to
as field offices where the policy and
principle for the governance in the
Department are translated into programs,
projects, and services developed, adapted
and offered to local needs.

The
offices
of
the
Secretary,
Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries,
and Bureau Directors are in the Central
Office. There are 6 regional offices
headed by the Regional Directors. The
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
(ARMM) is headed by a Regional
Secretary.

The ARMM has a Regional Secretary of Education


and staff. Although the Office is district from the
Department of Education, national programs and
projects involve the ARMM.
The Secretary of Department of Education exercises
supervision and control over the entire department.
Republic Act. 232 provides for four Undersecretaries
and four Assistant Secretaries. Assisting the Secretary
in the formulation of policies, standards, and programs
are three bureaus the Bureau of Elementary
Education, Bureau of Secondary Education and the
Bureau of Alternative Learning System.

The field offices of the DepEd are the 16


regional offices. The Autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is headed by a
Regional Secretary. A region is composed of
provincial and city each headed by a
Schools Division Superintended.
Figure 1 shows the organizational structure
of the provincial and city school divisions.

A school division is located in each


province or city. The provincial school
division may include a city or cities within
its geographical unit.

The schools Division Superintendent has


authority over all elementary and secondary
public and private schools in the division.
