Filipino Values: Are they considered virtues by

Aristotle?
Hospitality (magiliw na pagtanggap) and social acceptance (pakikisama) are the
most distinct Filipino values as mentioned by Vitaliano R. Gorospe which is true to all
Filipinos especially among the people of Cordilleras.
As to the concern of this reflection paper, are these Filipino values considered
virtues by Aristotle? For me, definitely yes, only if these were practice moderately
because as they have said too much and too little are always wrong. In this regard,
Aristotle believes that moderation in everything, every habit and every action must
always be exercised.
It has also mentioned that in practicing hospitality and pakikisama, it may affect
every Filipinos positively or the other way around. However, we cant deny the fact that
its negative consequence to people is the most noticeable act of many Filipinos. They
tend to cover up their low economic standard and show off what is not really the real
descriptions of their lives. Hence, the so called pakitang tao o pagkukunwari is being
practiced. The least example of this is during graduation celebration, because of the
graduate student envy to her classmate who used to celebrate and invite her friends in
their house, she insists her parents to have celebration too, that even they dont have
enough finance to do such her parents tend to do something in order to fulfill her
daughters wants and not to be embarrassed to her classmates.
But what will do in order to avoid this kind of circumstances? What will we do in
order to maintain the potential goodness of our very own values? Well, I guess, that
everyone should be acquainted regarding Aristotles idea of virtue. We should avoid the
practice of too much nor too little, rather let us train ourselves not to go beyond the line
of moderation.
