Sand-Vac System
TM

Problem
Formation sand produced with formation fluids gradually settles out in low sections of the horizontal
wellbore. Over time the build-up of fill reduces or completely blocks flow in the wellbore. Complete
fill removal in large diameter slotted liners is extremely difficult using conventional techniques.
Challenges include:

Sand production in heavy oil wells

Uneven horizontal well flow contributions
Oil versus water production
Low reservoir pressure
Undulating horizontal well profiles
Insufficient annular velocity for particle transport

Solution
A unique patented system combining a concentric coiled tubing string and a jet pump creates a
downhole vacuum cleaner which overcomes these challenges. Sub-hydrostatic wells can be
cleaned to TD without the use of nitrogen and without disturbing the natural sand bridges that form
around the slots in the liner.
