WorldStarspackagingawards
The28winnersoftheLderPack2015Awardswerepresentedwiththeirtrophiesyesterdayatthe
formerMoritzplantinBarcelona,ataceremonyattendedbyover200people,including
professionalsfromtheSpanishpackagingandPoPadvertisingindustry,theworldsofdesign,
logistics,marketingandadvertising,andrepresentativesofsectorassociations.Elevenofthe
awardwinnersalsodiscoveredduringtheceremonythattheyhadwonaWorldStarsAward,the
mostprestigiousinternationalawardsforthepackagingindustry.
TheLderPackprizegivingceremonyincludedspeechesbythepresidentofthejuryandtheSpanish
PackagingInstitute,CarlosAguilar,andthepresidentofHispack'sorganizingcommittee,Javier
RieraMars.Bothofthemhighlightedtheimportancethatpackagingistakingonasanelementof
innovationanddifferentiationinindustrialandconsumersectors,aswellastheircommitmenttothe
sustainabilityofcompaniesinthesector.
RieraMarsemphasizedtheinternationalimportanceoftheLderPackAwardsintermsoffacilitating
SpanishparticipationintheglobalWorldStarsAwardscompetitionorganizedbytheWorldPackaging
Organization.ThepresidentofHispackwentontorevealtheresultsachievedbyLderPackinthis
internationalcompetition,whoseoutcomewasannouncedrecentlyinMumbai.Ofthe18LderPackwinners
putforwardunderthesponsorshipofHispackandtheGraphispackAssociation,11weredistinguishedas
beingamongtheworld'sbestpackaging.

SupremepackagingforpetfoodbyBynsaMascotas.InthePoPsegment,theBestinShowawardwentto
theportabledisplaysuitcasecreatedbyZedisforsellingONCElotterytickets.
TheLderPackawards,convenedbytheGraphispackAssociationandFiradeBarcelona,rewardtheefforts
madebycompaniesinthesectortoinnovate,aswellasrecognizingthecreativity,quality,design,
practicalityandsustainabilityofthepackagingandPoPproductsmanufacturedinSpaineveryyear.

TheLderPack2015awardsrecognized28innovativepackagingand
PoPprojects
TheLderPackAwardshavenowbeendecidedthemostimportantawardsinthepackagingandpointof
purchase(PoP)sectorinSpainrecognisingatotalof28innovativeworksmanufacturedinSpainduring
2015.Thewinningideas,alsoconsideredtheBestinShow,were,innoparticularorder,alabelprintedin
wineandapremiumpackageoffoodforpetsinthepackagingsector,andatravellingdisplayunit/suitcase
forONCEtoselllotteryticketsinthePoPsegment.ThecompetitionisorganizedbytheGraphispack
AssociationandFiradeBarcelona'sHispacktradeshow.
Onthisoccasion,atotalof82workswerepresentedbycompaniesandschoolsfrom13Spanishprovinces.
Thejuryawarded18awardsinthepackagingcategory,threeinthePoPsegmentandsixforYoung
Design',thecategoryreservedfordesignstudents.SponsoredbyHispackandtheGraphispackAssociation,
thewinnersinthepackagingcategorywillalsoberepresentingSpainattheWorldStarPackagingAwards
2015,themostimportantinternationaleventforthepackagingsector.Meanwhile,thePoPawardswillnow
beknownastheLderPackPopaiAwardtoreflecttheirrecognitionbytheGlobalAssociationforMarketing
atRetail,POPAI.

Inadditiontothislabel,anotherfourproductswererecognisedinthedrinkspackagingcategory.Onewas
thenewblackglasswinebottlefortheCanarianwineryCumbresdeAbona,createdbythecompanySevilla
AvanzaPackaging.Thepackagingfeaturessmoothlineswithanelaborateengravingthatincludeslabelsin
vibrantcolourswithBraillewriting.
AnotherwinnerwasthelabelforthesignaturewineDuesConsonants,designedbyIreneGuasch.Asink,it
usestheleesofthewinetheverydense,burgundycolourednaturalsedimentsthatformduringthe
fermentationprocess.Thisresultsinaveryrugged,naturaleffectwiththeimpressionthatitisstillwet.
Meanwhile,theACoruafirmCoretitookawayaLderPackawardagainthisyearwithitsselfadhesive
Disfruta'winelabelswhichlettheenduserpersonalizetheirbottledependingonwhenandwherethey
intendtodrinkit.AnotherprizewinningpackagingwasthatoftheartisanbeerLaAntigua,theworkofJavier
GraduoDesignStudio.The75clbottlehasawaterresistantpaperlabelwhichsitsonthebottleneckand
issealedatthebackwithsealingwaxandthecompany'sseal,simulatingthehabitsofthemonkswhoused
tomakebeerintheirabbeys.
Packagingforsauces,eggs,preservesandtomatoes
Inthefoodpackagingcategory,theawardwinningideasrangedfromthePETThermaLitejarbyHeliosfor
sauces,presentedbyPlastipakIberia,offeringanalternativetoglass,totheSmurftray,anactivepack
manufacturedbyFlexomedwithantibacterialandethyleneabsorbentpropertieswhichdelaystheripeningof
tomatoesandreducesproductwastageby30%.
AlzamoraPackagingwonaLderPackawardfortheircardboardeggcartonforGarcaPuentefreerange
eggs.What'sdifferentaboutitisits5egg,singlerowformat.Anotherwinnerwastherangeofpackagingfor
Nixepreserves,oneofthebrandsofLIDLsupermarkets,createdbyVibranding,whichshunnedtheusual
Premiumaesthetictoadoptastyleinspiredbyseafarers'tattoostostandoutontheshelf.

Inthissection,thewinnerswereasfollows:ThebookpackageforJeanLeonwhichcontainstwobottlesof

LderPackawardforitseWinesolution,acardboardboxforsendingwinebottlesbycourier.Itsflapdesign
protectsthebottlesatthethreepotentialimpactpointstopreventanydamage.Itusesasmallercardboard
surfacethanothersolutionsandcanbeassembledinjustfiveseconds.Meanwhile,CartonajesFontwonan
awardforitsrecyclablepackagingfortransportingvehiclebumperswhichsavesonlogisticscosts,protects
theproductandminimizeswarehousespace.
TheothertwoLderPackawardsinthelogisticscategorywerewonbyProcter&GambleSpainfortheir
cardboardpackagingconvertibletoaPoPdisplayforEvaxfeminineprotectionproducts,andforClimesa,
whichpresentedanadvancedapplicationforvacuumpackagingproductsrangingfrom200to2000kilos,
reducingtheamountofspaceoccupiedandoptimizinglogistics.

Finally,inthePoPcategoryandunderthenewnameofPopaiAwards,herearethewinners:theportable
suitcasedisplayunitforONCEtoselllotterytickets,manufacturedbyZedisthecirculardisplayunitthatcan
beassembledinfivesecondsforBimboBagels,createdbyMirallesCartonajesandthetabletopdisplay
unitinlacqueredwoodwithPMMAinteriorsforthelaunchoftheOud&Rosefragrance,presentedby
Adaequo.
Ideasfromtheyoungesttalents
IntheYoungDesign'category,whichinvitesentriesfromstudentsatdesignschools,sixprojectswon
awards:fiveinthepackagingcategoryandoneinthePoPcategory.TheSalesianosdeSarriVocational
TrainingCentreinBarcelona,andtheHigherDesignandEngineeringSchoolofBarcelona,Elisava,shared
theawardsbetweenthem.
ThewinningideasfromtheSalesianosdeSarrischoolweretwopacketsforsendinglightbulbsanda
packageforanelectricmonocycleconvertibletoaPoPdisplay.Thenamesoftheproductsare"Pack.Esto
esunabombilla"byAndrsAlbaandMarioSenzdeTejada,and"PackBombilla"byMireiaRojasand
JhosyUrbina.Bothprojectswerecreatedfromrecyclablecardboardandassembledwithoutadhesiveand
thesecondonecanalsobebrokendownandusedasadisplayfortheproduct.Thethirdwiningproject
fromthisschoolandwinnerofthePopaiAwardforYoungDesign,alsoearningaspecialcommendation
fromthejury,wasMOCYCLbyJosepReigandSebastiJerez.Thisprojectcomprisesfourtransport
packagesforaproductwhich,whenstacked,showauseroftheproductonalifesizescale.AsaPoP
supportitstandsoutforthematerialusedaswellasitsdesign,screenprintingandthefactitcanbe
assembledwithoutadhesive,conveyingmodernity,innovationandsustainability.
Meanwhile,thewinningworkspresentedbytheElisavaschoolwere:Children'sfruitjuicecontainersfor

representingLucianoAguilar,S.A.,andtheSpanishPackagingInstitute(IEEE)putahighvalueon
aspectssuchastheuseofsustainablematerials,functionality,design,thegraphicimageandimprovements
introducedforusersandthelogisticsprocess.
OrganizedbytheGraphispackAssociationandFiradeBarcelona'sHispacktradeshowsince1995,the
LderPackAwardsarethemostimportantawardsinSpaininthepackagingandPoPsector.In2005they
startedbeingawardedannuallyinordertorecognizeandpromotetheinnovationandcreativityof
companiesandprofessionalsinvolvedinthedesignandmanufactureofpackagingandPoPproducts.

Hispack,theInternationalPackagingExhibitionheldinAprilatFiradeBarcelona'sGranViaExhibition
Centre.ThemeetingoftheOrganizingCommitteeservedtoevaluatetheperformanceandresultsofthe
tradeshowanditsactivitiesaswellasanalysingthesuccessofthisyear'sapproach"fromandfor
demand",astheshow'sdirectorXavierPascualexplained.
Pascualtalkedaboutthe"innovativenatureoftheformandcontentofthisedition,theimportanceof
networkingamongprofessionalsandthecommitmenttomaintaininganongoingrelationshipwiththe
packagingindustry."Pascualthankedallthedifferentcommitteesofprofessionalsandexpertsfortheirhard
workattheshowtoidentifydemandandcreatespecificareas(Trendpack,Premiumpack,RetailArea,and
Pack&LogisticCorner)toaddressnewneedsinrelationtopackagingapplicationsinthewholevaluechain.
Amongtheobjectivesachieved,XavierPascualhighlightedthevisitsbynewclients,mainlyendproduct
manufacturers.Thefoodandbeveragesectorwasthemostheavilyrepresentedamongthe38,000trade
professionalsattendingtheshow,thoughaconsiderableincreaseinvisitornumbersfromtheperfumery,
cosmeticsandpharmaceuticalsectorswasnotedcomparedto2012.Hispackalsomanagedtoattractnew
professionalprofilesfromthefieldsofmarketingandR&Ddepartments.
Intermsofinternationalization,theneedtocontinuetargetingpotentialmarketswasnoted,mainlyLatin
AmericaandtheMediterraneanarea,inordertoattractalargernumberofbuyers,withoutneglectingthe

RieraMarssingledoutthesynergiesthatcomefromholdingtheshowatthesametimeasBTA,especially
intermsofprofessionalsfromthefoodsectorlookingtofindprocessingandpackagingsolutionsatHispack.
BeforedissolvingtheOrganizingCommittee,XavierPascualranthroughafewareasforimprovementwitha
viewtothenexteditionoftheshowin2018.Theseincluded:IncreasingthenumberofSpanish
professionalsfromotherautonomouscommunicatesapartfromCataloniaContinuingtheshow's
internationaldrivetoattractforeignbuyerswithspecificprojectsPromotingspecificproductsectorssuchas
PremiumpackandretailmaterialsPuttingabiggeremphasisonqualityratherthanquantityofcontentinthe
activityareasandfindingnewwaystochannelanddisplayinnovationinthesector.
PascualalsoannouncedthatHispackwillnotbewaitinguntil2018toreaffirmitscommitmenttothe
packagingandPoPindustryanditsdemandsectors,giventhatitwillcontinuetoorganizeandoffer
companiesandprofessionalsarangeofmeetings,seminarsandnetworkingsessionstoincrease
knowledgeofthepackagingworld.
ThemeetingwasattendedbytheDeanandViceChancellorofAcademicPlanningfromtheUAOCEU,Eva
Perea,whoreiteratedtheimportanceoftighteningbondsbetweenuniversitiesandthebusinesssector.
Exceeding all expectations, trade visitors to the two shows total almost
38,000
SignsofeconomicrecoveryatanexcellentjointeditionofHispack&
BTA
Hispack&BTAcloseditsthirdjointeditionattheFiradeBarcelonaGranViaexhibitioncentrethis
afternoon,confirmingachangeoftrendintheindustryandtheeconomythatindicatesarecovery.Atthe
closedofthisedition,withthefinalfiguresyettocomein,bothshowsaresettoreachcloseto38,000trade
visitors,8%morethantheexpectedtotal.Exhibitorshavehighlightedthequalityofvisitorswho,unlike
duringtheeconomicdownturn,havecomewithdefiniteplansforinvestmentandtheincreaseinnumberof
foreignvisitors,from112countries,10.6%ofthetotal.
ThepackagingandfoodtechnologysectorshavewitnessedtherecoveryofthenationalmarketatHispack
&BTA,withanexcellentresponsefromvisitorsfromalltheAutonomousCommunitieswhohavecometo
theshowseekingmainlyinnovationandsolutionstoimprovetheirfirms'competitivenessandtolaunchnew
products,aswellastofindoutaboutthelatesttrends.

Kingdom,therewasanotableincreaseinthenumberofindustryprofessionalsatthisedition,fromMorocco,
Mexico,TunisiaandColombia.
Intermsofoffer,thenumberofexhibitingcompaniesofbothHispackandBTAhaveincreased.Thetwo
tradefairstogetherdrew1,250companies,6%morethanin2012,demonstratingthedifferentstagesof
foodproducts,fromingredientstoequipmentandtechnologiesforthemanufacturingprocess,including
packagesandpackaging,logisticsandarrivalatthepointofsale.Likewise,sectorssuchas
pharmaceuticals,chemicals,drugs,perfumeryandcosmetics,amongstothers,foundtailoredprocessing
andpackagingsolutionsatHispack.
Theactivitiesprogrammedfortheshowsprovedverypopular.Hispackfeaturedover200presentationsinits
fourthemedareas(Trendpack,Premiumpack,RetailAreaandPack&LogisticCorner),whileatBTA
(BarcelonaFoodTechnologies)therewerecloseto40sessionsonthelatesttrendsinfoodtechinnovation,
presentationsofnewproductsandroundtablesessions.TheLderpackBta.InnovaandBta.Emprende
awardsceremoniesalsotookplaceinthecourseofHispack&BTA.
ThenextjointeditionoftheInternationalPackagingExhibition,Hispack,andAlimentariaFoodTech(thenew
nameofBTA)willbein2018.

entrantswhich,apartfromwinningtheirownrespectivecategories,werehonouredwiththeBestinShow'
distinctionatthiseditionofthecompetition,whichisorganizedeveryyearbyHispackandtheGraphispack
Association.Onthisoccasion,19awardswerepresentedforpackaging,sixforpointofpurchaseadvertising
andtwoforYoungDesign',thecategoryreservedfordesignstudents,plusfourotherworksthatmeriteda
specialcommendationfromthejury.Thisyear,participationintheawardsroseby8%comparedtothe
previousyear,with92entriesfromcompaniesanddesignschoolsin16Spanishprovinces.
