What do you feel about assessment?

Excited when used properly

Love data (its powerful when used properly)
Can see the progress of students
Do not like testing for the sake of it. It needs to be
used appropriately to personalise learning

What kinds of assessment are there?

Beginning of the year assessments (this is
paramount)
Formal assessment
Anecdotal notes
One to one time (verbally and visually assess)
Formative, Summative
Gootman-To plot a continuum of learning
Peer assessment (feedback)
What role does assessment play?

Gives us the ability to teach in various ways

Teach back to the class
Improve teaching and learning
Shows us where students are at in the learning

How do you plan assessment?

At the beginning of a lesson not at the end
Find out where my students are at then I
incorporate the curriculum

Just because you teach a specific year level doesnt

me you have to stick to that level (all students are
individuals)
Tailor my assessment to individuals
Test what Ive done and what are the next steps
Begin at the standard
How do you provide feedback?

Conferencing
Writing
Guided reading
Not always teacher instigated
Helps students with a specific area and progress
that point
React to students writing- respond (laugh, be
confused, angry)- This shows students their writing
is showing emotion.
Depends on the year level youre teaching- if older
be real with them, have open conversations,
honest conversations, and explain why.
Make time for one to one interactions
Do you promote self or peer feedback?

Yes
Peer feedback not peer assessment
Be positive
Point out ideas
Honesty
Self-feedback- recognising whats needing to be
improved
