MY ASSESSMENT LIST
Name of FS Student: Kier A. Baugbog
Course: BSED Mathematics

Year & Section: 3-1

Cooperating School: Malinta National High School

Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will be keen at identifying and naming different
assessment methods used in the classroom.

Your Map
To be aware of the assessment tools that are used in the classrooms, you will find
interest in observing teachers assessment practices.
To hit your target, work your way through this steps.
Step 5: Reflect on your experience
.
Step 4: Confer with your FS teacher
your assessment list.

Your Tools

Step 3: Describe how each assessment

method was used, including your personal
observations.
Step 2: In your list, classify assessment methods
as to conventional and authentic/alternative.
Step 1: Observe at least three classes and make a list of
the assessment methods used by teachers.

As you visit schools and observe assessment practices in at least three classes,
document your observations using the activity forms provided for you in this book. For
your pen-and-paper test items, customize a table of specification, and prepare the test
material based on the prescriptions of the school where you do class observation.

Subject Area: Mathematics

DESCRIPTION
(Bulleted description of how the assessment method is
used relative to subject matter, levels of learning
behaviour, length, etc.)

Oral Recitation

An example of a paper and pen assessment

It measures the degree of learning of
students in such a way that theyll answer
questions regarding the topic and apply
their learning to the questions
Administered in just a little amount of time
and very practical for the teacher.
Students werent assessed authentically.
Students got a chance to cheat because
their population is enormous and the
teacher is having a difficult time handling
the students.

The teacher orally asked the students about

the process of getting the answer.
It very appropriate especially for math.
Students critical thinking is observable.
Usually consume just a little amount of time

Portfolio

Very authentic way of assessing the students.

Students are tasked to compile their works.
Students shown creativity and work of art.
It usually need the whole school year to finish.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW ASSESSMENT METHOD

WAS USED
(Please include your personal observations and
comments below the description.)
Description: A paper and pen kind of assessment.
Students were asked to answer problems regarding
the topic.
Comments: Quizzes are good but the
administration was not quite. Students has chance
to cheat making the whole process in vain.
Description: A paper and pen kind of assessment.
Students were asked to answer problems regarding
the topic. In a much shorter time in compare with
the quiz.
Comments: Questions in seatwork are all got in
their module. I think it is much better to make your
own questions.
Description: A paper and pen kind of assessment.
Students were asked to answer problems regarding
the topic. Usually the longest of them all.
Comments: Test was administered right. I just hope
that the content can really assessed the learning of
the students.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW ASSESSMENT METHOD

WAS USED
(Please include your personal observations and
comments below the description.)

1. Oral recitation

2. Portfolio

Description: The teacher was asking students orally

how they or their classmate came up with that
answer. So, it is basically a kind of process-oriented
performance based assessment.
Comments: The way it is, is quite good. The intent
and the way the assessment is going is very nice. Its
just that, the teacher should often do this kind of
assessment.
Description: Teacher tasked the students to
compile their work. Emphasizing their achievements
and make reflections.
Comments: This is very compelling on the part of
the teacher. In this way shell be able to assess his
affectivity as a teacher and students achievement all
throughout the process.

Your Analysis
Was there a variety of assessment methods used by the teacher? How
relevant was/were the assessment methods used?
Apparently, the teacher uses different method but other methods are ofte
neglected. So, generally, the teacher uses a single kind of assessment method. It is very
conventional in nature. After every discussion the teacher gives quizzes and or seat works
to be worked out by the students. Its just basically paper and pen method. There is no
variety and I can say it is relevant but is very obsolete. On the k-12 curriculum education
where students performance is emphasized I expect that teachers will use authentic
assessment that would emphasize students performances in a specific topic. Nonetheless,
I completely understand why the teacher uses such method. The teacher is about 20-30
years in the service and I believe she is lack of knowledge about the way assessment
should be done in the new curriculum. The department of education should shoulder
these kinds of problems. They should have seminars that will inform most especially
those teachers who are already decades in the service.
Do you think the expected students learning behaviours indicated in the
objectives were properly and appropriately assessed through those assessment methods?
I think the assessment method used by the teacher did not properly and
appropriately assessed the indicated learning behaviours in the objective. Aside from the
fact that it is conventional and does not emphasize the learning behaviour that should
manifest in the students, the way the assessment method was administered gives the
chance to the students to cheat. From the view at the back, I can say that some students
cheated and by that, I think the assessment method used by the teacher did not properly
and appropriately assessed the indicated learning behaviours in the objective.

Your Reflections
Write your personal reflection of thoughts and feelings about the importance in the use of
appropriate assessment methods in the classroom, including what students and teachers
can gain from appropriate assessment tools. Share your reflection with your FS teacher
and classmates.
Assessment, primarily, is very essential in teaching-learning process. It
serves as physical evidence of whether your students learn and on the same manner if you
have been an effective teacher. Therefore, we need to choose appropriate assessment
methods. For the teachers, it is very important to choose appropriate assessment methods
because in that way they will be able to determine if their set goal was achieved. For the
students, it is very important to choose appropriate assessment methods because in that
way they will be able to have a fair methodology on measuring what have theyd learned.
Also, it will make them sure that it caters as much as possible the learning style of all
them.
