Observation Report
The students have been learning about different landforms and had started their own
projects. The class made clay and then formed different landform on a small square cardboard
cutout. The class were in the ending stages and were asked to label the landforms they formed so
they could be later tagged to the clay. The students were proud of their creations so far and were
happy to start to finish it.
Purpose of the lesson was to get the students to recognize the features of their projects
and be able to accurately connect them to a landform and its features. The students had the
landform ideas in their mind but it was good to actually see the landforms and how they made
them into what they are.
The classroom was for the most part contained, but there were moments when the
excitement of seeing others projects would cause the class to be a little rowdy but it never got to
where it was uncontrollable. Constructive talking was allowed but was monitored to provide
every child with the opportunity to focus on their own assignment.
The lesson was integrated with writing because the students had to label their landforms
but there was not a writing extensive portion of this assignment. I think that sometimes, science
is just pushed into worksheets and only focus on the subject that are tested on at the end of the
year but to actually see a science project being done was very good to experience. I would do a
similar lesson if I had a chance because the students really enjoyed it and they learned a lot from

it. I am not sure if I would have made the clay with the students because that sounds messy and
time consuming but I would have to do it myself before I would see if it was appropriate for my
grade level. I will most definitely not be a worksheet teacher when it comes to science. I will
want to do activities that will engage the learner and want them to want to know more about
scientific experiments and projects, rather than worksheets and notes.
