Hardware and Software HW

1. It stores and represents information by using two digits, 0 and 1. It is extremely simple, and can represent
multiple things, such as photos, colors, text, and music.
2. Binary is much simpler, less ambiguous, and perfect copies of the binary can be produced. Analog signals can
consistently change in volume, and noise can impact the signals.
3. Processors run software and applications. They decode information, so that it can be understood by the
processor. They execute information, doing what the commands state and running the software. They store the
information for future use, and fetch information.
4. Main memory contains data being used by the computer. It allows for the current programs and applications to
be loaded and used.
5. Main memory is needed, because without it, the data and programs currently being used by the computer could
not be loaded.
6. Secondary memory is used for storing data and programs on the long term. It can be in the computer, or can be
external storage, such as CDs or flash drives.
7. Main memory contains the data and programs currently being used by the computer. Main memory is lost when
the computer is turned off. Secondary memory is for storage, and only erased if the user deletes it.
8. The language used for programming that the micro processor understands and is able to decode and execute.
9. No, because different processors have different machine languages that they understand.
10. Memory is stored in bits, which are stored in bytes, which can be stored in megabytes, etc. Bits are small unit of
information that contains memory and information for programs, systems, applications, etc.

11. Machine language is written as numbers, and is much simpler than human language. It is less flexible and more
constricted than human language.
12. Hardware is the physical components that make up the computer, and the software is the collection of programs,
applications, etc. The software tells the hardware what to do and how to operate. The hardware is useless
without the software to instruct it, and the software is useless without the hardware to carry out the programs.
13. Programming language can use words, while machine language only has numbers as commands. High level
programming is also used for more complex operations.
