structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning
experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and
meaningful for learners
Brief Summary of Artifact:
This artifact, The Great Spelling Mystery, is a spelling activity in which
students discovered the rules for suffixes and pluralization through
patterns. It was implemented as an activity to learn different rules for
spelling through discovery instead of lecture.
Reflection:
I chose this artifact because it shows how I can make lessons
accessible and more meaningful for learners. When I implemented this
lesson, I saw that many students were excited to figure Advanced
students were able to complete the activity in small groups. This
allowed for collaboration as students taught themselves multiple rules
of spelling. For struggling students, I did more scaffolding with the
assignment. I was also able to formatively assess where the class was
and what they understood. This allowed me to provide more
instruction as needed, as well as know when they can complete a part
independently.
