Litem The GAL must document every visit and maintain orderly
files to ensure that they are providing the most accurate
information to the judge, and able to make appropriate recommendations. Professional clothing and presentation demonstrates a respect for the court, as well as for the families they represent. It is vital that the GAL understands her or his areas of personal bias when completing recommendations. This is done through consulting with peers and supervisors, and helps to ensure that the best course of action is taken. Remaining aware of current laws and precedents helps the GAL advocate for their families, and better serve their best interest.
