Service Project Essay

For my service hours project, I worked at my local parish, St. Fidelis, at their Lentin fish fry.
At my Parish, approximately 2000 people come to eat the fish dinners. When working at the fish
fry, my job varies from each day. One day, I could be serving food and cleaning tables and the
next day, I could be washing dishes or packaging deserts. Another job I have to perform is
greeting people when they walk into the door.
I chose to work at the Fish Fry because it allows me to work on my communication skills. I
also chose it because I like helping out the people in my community. I talk to many of the people
that attend the first fry so they have an enjoyable experience and decide to come back another
time. The Fish Frys raise over 100,000 dollars a year that is later donated to the less privileged..
The money raised goes to the poor and provides them with shelter, food, and clothing.
During my weeks of working at the Fish Frys I grew in my spirituality. Any job that has to
do with giving back to the community is something that I am interested in. These acts of charity
that I performed can be correlated with the works of Jesus Christ. Jesus gave back to his
community to help those who were struggling to live their lives. When I give back to the
community, I feel a closer connection with Jesus. Overall, working at the Fish Frys has
benefited me because I grew stronger in my spirituality and communication skills.
