Cool for the Boishakh


After a long day of hanging out with your friends and family, even a glass of
cold water seems like heaven. Instead of gulping down just cold water, how
about you try making some yummy drinks and share it with your loved ones?
Try these easy recipes for Boishakhi drinks and become "Cool for the
Boishakh!"

LEMON-FRUIT JUICE:

Ingredients:

Cold water - 2 cups


Ice cubes - 1 cup
Sugar - 4 tablespoons
Salt - as you wish
Lemon juice - 4 tablespoons
Soda water- 2 cups
Mint leaves
Fruit slices - grapes, orange, apple, strawberry, etc.

Procedure:
Add sugar, salt, and lemon juice with cold water. Take a tall glass and add 1/2
cup of fruit slices. Then add 1/2 glass of lemon juice and some ice cubes.
Pour soda water to the mixture and serve it.

MATHA:

Ingredients:
1. Greek yogurt ( regular) - 1 cup

Water - 2 cups
Ice cubes - 1 cup
Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Procedure:
Mix or whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl or a jug and serve.

REFRESING AND HEALTHY MANGO SHERBET MADE USING APLHONSO


MANGOES

1) 2 medium or large alphonso mangoes - yields approx


2) 1.5 to 2 cups of mango puree
3) 1-2 tsp of sabja seeds
4) organic powdered jaggery or unrefined cane sugar as
required
4) 3-4 cups of chilled water or as required
5) or 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
6) few ice cubes (optional)
how to make the recipe:
1. soak the sabja/basil seeds in cup of water for half an
hour.
2. peel and chop the mangoes.
3. add mangoes and water in a blender
4. also add sugar or jaggery as required.
5. blend everything well.
6. take the whole mixture in a bowl or jar.
7. if you want a thin juice you can add more water.
8. check for sweetness and add more jaggery or sugar if
required.
9. strain the soaked sabza seeds & add them to the
sherbet.
10. stir & pour mango sherbet in tall glasses.
11. you can add a few ice cubes while serving.

FRUITS AND SWEETS

Traditionally, the seasonal fruits and vegetables like raw mango (kacha aam),
pointed gourd (potol) and others are used in the various food preparations.
Sweets made of chhena or cottage cheese are relished. Bengalies are known
for their sweet tooth and on this festive occasion too sweets are exchanged
between families and friends. Sweets are symbolic of this occasion.
