UMD MINORITY ENROLLMENT SURGES

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -The University released its student enrollment figures for this
fall. Based on self-reported student data, the University found that minority student
enrollment increased 8.7 percent. The University has been working tirelessly to improve
diversity on campus. This years figures are the results of diversity initiatives, committees
and strategic planning.
This University has taken a significant step forward, said President Loh. Our
many efforts of recent years are beginning to produce the desired results. Here are the
numbers:

Black student enrollment increased to 678

American Indian student enrollment increased to 204
Asian student enrollment increased to 565
Hispanic student enrollment increased to 452

Although these results are a huge accomplishment, diversity initiatives wont stop here.
We still have more to do. This is only the beginning, Loh said. For more information
