THE RURAL MAID

Summary:
The poem entitled The Rural Maid is about a man who fell in love to a woman at one
glance. But he felt pain inside him because he knows that her heart belongs to someone else.
They parted and never crossed paths again. But the memory of the woman kept hunting him in
his dream. Through this poem, he expressed his true feelings for the woman. The man still keeps
his love for her even if it is about a love of a painful kind, an unrequited love. He appreciated her
beauty by describing her as half human, half divine. And he says that if he could hold her in his
arms, its like heaven and earth is his.

Interpretation:
The poem revolves in a hopeless dreamers passion for a woman he could never own.
When he saw the rural maid, maybe she was with his man or she was pregnant or carrying her
baby with her husband. It is painful to fell in love at first sight and then seeing her with
somebody else. He felt the pain of fond regret because they were never given a chance to know
each other and maybe fall in love with each other. But he cant resist not loving her. Hes always
thinking about her. And even if loving her is hurting him, he chooses to continue sacrificing
because it is his happiness, to love the woman whom he knew that would never love him back.
His love is unconditional. But one should not trap himself in a one-sided love. We must live in
the reality and stop being in the fantasy. They were destined to meet but they are not destined for
each other.
