Asia J. Heywood
My name is Asia J. Heywood, and I was born in Queens, New York. I am the oldest if
three girls born to Darrell and Mary Heywood. In 2001, I moved to St. George, South Carolina. I
attended Woodland High School, in Dorchester, South Carolina. I maintained an A-B honor roll
throughout my years at high school and also achieved the award of being on the national honor
roll. While attending high school, I was a varsity cheerleader for all four years. By my junior
year I became captain of the team. I am a member of Harvey’s Chapel Baptist Church where I
sing on the choir. Growing up I knew that I always wanted to teach. My fifth grade teacher
I decided to attend Claflin University because it is not a big school, encourages you to
apply for internships and its academic quality. My major is early childhood education. I chose
this field because I want to teach and love the little children. I always wanted to work with kids.
Here at Claflin I took part in community service where I attended Whittaker Elementary School.
I really enjoyed this experience and knew this is what I wanted to do. I want to help children and
push them forward to achieve all that they can and what’s in store for them. My philosophy of
I plan to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Claflin University in May 2012. I plan to
