Dear Pardon Attorney,

My name is Aqeel Ahmad and I am a Mechanical Engineer. I heard that a

petition was being prepared for the President Obama to commute the
sentence of Afia and I want to be heard in support of this petition.
I have known about Afia Siddiquis case for many years through print and
electronic media. The case had a big impact on me as a human. Afia was a
Doctor, neuroscientist, researcher and also working for the humanity through
her charity work. Her prison is not helping the humanity; instead depriving
the society of its good people. It is also a big question mark on the
humanitarian efforts of American nation and government who come forward
to support the humanitarian causes all across the world.
I cannot understand how Afia could be sentenced to 86 years in jail for what
she is supposed to have done, especially when nobody was even injured
except Afia. If she snatched gun from some soldier and fired then why only
she herself got injured. The conduct of the trial that covered up Afias
disappearance for five (5) years with her children, made it impossible for her
to present her defense and get justice.
Afias case raises many fundamental issues of law and justice that are
continually being abused by powerful countries. She got disappeared and
kept in prison without any trial, without being presented in any court. Her
children got captured without any reason. Even if someone is criminal, law
doesnt allow capturing his/her children along with him/her. But this case
shows the worst example of our society who remained silent on this big issue
of inhumane behavior of the powerful authorities.
I hope the president Obama will commute Afias sentence as she and her
children have already suffered a lot. All across the world, sentences are being
reduced for the people. Women rights also being violated in the case.
