Thestudentwill:learnandunderstandthestrategiesof
shadingobjectsandfigures.Acquiringthisknowledgewillallowthestudentto
demonstratetheirnewlearnttechniquesindrawings,theywillunderstandhowtochange
ashapeorafigurefrom2Dtotheillusionof3D.
InstructionalStrategy
:TheTeacherwilldemonstrateanexampleofshading,anddefine
tothestudentsthemeaningofhighlighting,coreshadowing,valueshading,andother
varioustermsinvolvedwithsketchshading.TheTeacherwillthenproceedwiththe
learningactivity.
LearningActivity
:Afterinstructionsvisuallyshownandverballyexplained,the
studentswillbeinstructedtodrawacirclewithshadedregionstocausetheillusionofa
3Dfigure.Uponcompletionandshowingthattheyhaveanunderstandingofthesubject
matterthestudentwillproceedwiththechoosingofanotherobjectorfigure,andapply
toita3Dillusion.
AssessmentofActivity
:Artisawayforstudentstoenhancethedepthoftheir
expressionsthroughtheirwork.Studentsbecomecreators,designers,andinnovators.As
teachersitisourjobtosimplyguidethemalongtheirownindividualanduniquejourney.
Thestudentswillbeworkingingroupscommentingoneachother'sworkandhelping
eachotherwiththeirownideas.Afterthedrawingsarehandedin(afterprobablyafew
classes)Iwillassessmostlyoneffortandunderstandingoftheterminology.

:Fieldtripstoartgalleriesand
museumsisagreatwayforthechildrentoobserveandlearnaboutart,thiscouldbedone
inapriorclass.Therearecountlessexamplesofshadingtechniquesonlinethatcanbe

observed.Visualpresentationsofshadingtechniquesandexamplesshouldandwillbe
usedinthislessonplan.Workingtogetherstudentscanlearnfromeachother'sideasas
well.
