Somali Wild Ass:

Natural habitat:

African Wild Asses live in arid and semi-arid bush/shrub land, grassland, and

in deserts.

Range: The African Wild Ass occurs in Eritrea and Ethiopia, and some animals may persist in, Somalia, Sudan,
and Egypt.

Habitat: Marginal desert land; adapted to areas that are arid at least seasonally.

Biology:
Wild Diet: Consume grasses, bark, leaves, even creosote bushes in desert areas.

Life span:

Female: 12 15 years

Adaptations:

Adaptations to extreme heat in desert environments include ability to raise body

temperature by as much as 6.5

Status: Critically Endangered


Gender Differences:

Females tend to travel in packs or with their young. Males tend to travel

alone in search of a mate.

Behavior:
Social Behavior: Wild asses show different social organization depending on the environment .
Vocalizations:
Females call males during estrus.
Snorts indicate alarm.
