Geometry - Circle

A triangle ABC is inscribed in a circle. Angle B is given as 82° and angle C is 40°. The midpoint M of arc AB is given. The question asks to determine the value of angle MAC. Using the properties that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180° and that an inscribed angle subtends half the arc it intercepts, angle MAC is calculated to be 78°.

TRIANGLE WITH CIRCUMSCRIBING CIRCLE

Triangle ABC is inscribed in a circle,
with angle B = 82 and C = 40. Point M
is the midpoint of arc AB. Determine the
value of the angle MAC.
Solution:
B
40
M
82
116

40

40

2(82) = 164

Arc AMB = 2 40 = 80
ARC MB = arc AMB = 80 = 40
Arc AC = 2(82) = 164
Arc BC = 360 - 80 - 164
Arc BC = 116
Arc MBC = 40 + 116
Arc MBC = 156
Inscribed angle MAC = arc MBC
Inscribed angle MAC = 156
Inscribed angle MAC = 78
