Review of yesterdays assignment
Time for review questions from the homework
Introduce surface area. The teacher did a great job of explaining and visually showing
volume and surface area. He drew a 3d cube on the board and allowed for a visual
representation of the terms to go with the auditory explanation. He gave a real world
example of what a cube unit is. Think sugar cubes placed in a box or bowl. I would have
had the vocabulary words written out on the board so that the scholars could copy them
down in to their notes.
Practice/Application:
The teacher did an excellent job of making sure the terms were clearly defined. Lets be
clear on the term. He did a great job of asking the scholars for explanations of the
examples he had given. The teacher did a wonderful job of using visual drawings to help
with the understandings of the terms. I felt that he really wanted to make sure the
scholars understood the difference between volume and surface area. He did a great job
of making sure that all of the scholars questions were answered to gain a greater
understanding. Overall with this section I would say his instruction was excellent.
Review/Assessment:
This class has the EL scholar that I did my first observation in it. After the English lesson
that I observed on Monday, I went out and bought him EL a Russian-English dictionary. I
was very pleased when during this lesson, he took that dictionary out and used it to help
with the terms of this topic. I was glad that he has a tool that he feels comfortable
referring to during the lesson and application.
