Timothy Recinos
Professor Kole Matheson
English Composition 110C
3/4/2016

My name is Timothy Recinos. I am an aspiring, second-semester, full time student at Old

Dominion University. As a full time student, it is my job to do my best in every class I take
throughout my career, and it is crucial for my educational career and status that I stay on top of
my grades so I know what is going on. To help me better understand how I can keep on track
with my grades, I did research on my English Composition 110C grade in order to provide an
accurate progress report on my past grades, so I can be able to start creating strategies to
improve my grade or maintain my grade throughout the semester so I can pass the class with
above a 70 percent average.
To find my grades, I went on Blackboard and went to the my grades section. From
there I was able to see all the assignments that were already due, I was able to see whether or
not I completed them, and I was able to see the unweighted score associated with the
assignment. According to the data on blackboard, my grade consists of these three major parts:
writing journals, attendance, and my exploratory essay.
I had turned in all of my writing journals besides 4, and of the completed journals I
received a 100 for all of them except one, for which I received a 60 percent. The 4 writing
journals that I did not turn in resulted in a 0 percent for all four of them. I have missed 2.5
absences out of the class which doesnt penalize the grade. On the exploratory essay I earned
a 78 percent. My current unweighted grade right now is 62 percent.
A common theme I found was missing the writing journals and getting a 0 percent on
them. A solution for the future would be to actually do my writing journals and turn them in on
time so I can get the full credit, and I would get participation credit because I could participate in
the discussions that are held in class. I need to schedule out a time that can be used to do the
writing journals so I dont miss any more in the future. At the moment, I only have a weakly
enforced schedule allotted for the writing journals; therefore, I do not always have the time
prepared for me to do my journals. I need to acquire some self discipline so I can create a solid
schedule for doing my writing journals. I also need to avoid getting more absences because I
will start to lose out on valuable points for attendance after missing 3 classes. To improve my
past essay grade I have the opportunity to receive more points if I revise and resubmit my
essay, and my best option would be to visit the writing center and get a veteraned set of eyes to
look over my paper and give me some good revision ideas. For future essays, the only answer I
have for myself is to go to the writing center and utilize on campus resources.

RUBRIC - MIDTERM EXAM

Genre Completeness: the midterm follows the IMRAD pattern completely.
All sections are easily recognizable and follow their genre specifications.
While I can easily recognize the IMRAD of your report, I dont see the

50/70

discussion and conclusion as clearly distinguished sections. Indeed, you

seem to combine these sections into a well-organized paragraph, which I
agree is a clear way of reporting information. Be aware, though, that this
genre requires these sections be developed separately. Also, the methods is
underdeveloped in that it doesnt explore methods for success on
assignments. Great work otherwise!
