Name of Lesson: Australia Day
Learning intention: For students to show what Australia day
means to them and their family within the changing face of
Australia

The Lesson:
Introduction:
In pairs ask students to record their response to the question,
What does Australia Day mean to you? Encourage students to
think about their growing understandings of what it means to
be Australian.
Create a class list of words that have been given by the
students
Investigate:
Students are asked to think about themselves and how
they celebrate Australia Day.
Each student prepares a talk that clearly demonstrates
their culture, celebrations, significant values or
perspectives based on their own family traditions etc.
Ask students to begin with the sentence on Australia Day
my family celebrates
by..because..

Assessment:
Have students been able to describe the importance of their
own culture and how they celebrate on Australia Day.
