The description of (script for) the lesson, wherein you describe teacher activities and
student activities
Begin by asking, What things do we need to survive?
Students list things like, clothes, food, a place to
Allow the students to respond. Remind the students
live.
that needs are things we cannot survive without, so a
game is not a need.
Say, There are four basic needs that the Native
Americans had: Food and water, fire/fuel, clothing, and
shelter. Were going to learn about 3 of them today,
and well talk about shelter or housing tomorrow.
Students listen.
Development
Ask, Did all the Native Americans eat the same food?
Allow for student response. Why do you think that is?
Say, So, now we know how they got their food, but
does anyone have any ideas on how they might have
gotten water? Eventually guide them to: they either
lived by water, traveled to water, or relied on rain.
Student listen.
