Mr. Ortega introduces himself as the English 101 and 102 teacher who cares deeply about preparing students for college. He believes students grow by improving writing skills and relating material to their lives. The main goal is for students to write at a college level by year's end. Students will study Shakespeare and Orwell's 1984. Parents should read and sign the syllabus, which allows space for questions. Mr. Ortega is available by phone, meeting, or email with any comments or concerns.

Dear Parent or Guardian, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this school year. I enjoy teaching English 101 and 102 because I care deeply about my students being prepared for what they will encounter with their classes in college. I believe that students grow and develop by not only improving their writing skills in this class, but also how the material relates to their life. The main goal of this course is to have students write at a college level by the end of the school year. Over the course of this year, students will be introduced to lessons that include the incredible life and world of Shakespeare, as well as the dystopian society within George Orwells 1984. Additional information about the class is provided in the syllabus that students will be bringing home for parents. Please read and sign the syllabus on the last page of the document in order to indicate your understanding and support of the classroom expectations. There is an open space on the signature page that allows you to write any questions or concerns you may have after reading the syllabus. Students will be turning in this signature page to me. Also note that if you ever have any comments, questions, or concerns, I am available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment please) each day before and after school. I am also available via e-mail, which I check daily before classes begin and before leaving the school, at rortega4@asu.edu. I am excited about working with your child. I welcome questions or comments and am looking forward to a great year! Sincerely, Teacher Raymond Ortega
