Dear Parents,

I am very excited to start this school year with you

and your student! I recently graduated from Siena

Heights University with a major in Language Arts, and a

focus on Elementary Education. I spent my practicum

hours in a fourth grade classroom and learned a lot

from my mentor teacher that helped prepare me to be

part of your students third grade learning experience! I

was able to learn what your student will be working on

next year, and what we need to focus on this year in

order to help them be prepared for fourth grade.

This year I want to focus on helping your student

master new reading levels to set them on a path for a

lifetime love of reading. I am hoping to help them

develop a love for reading through a partnership of

reading at school and home. In the classroom we will

have a board where students can post reviews of

books they have read to share what they are reading

with the rest of the class and help other students pick

books!
I also have plans to help students interact with

books to utilize them in other subject areas to help

students learn many things through books. One

example of this is reading How To Catch A Leprechaun

and then having students construct their own

leprechaun traps using scientific thinking. I plan on

teaching this lesson around Saint Patrick's Day.

In order to build a relationship with books and

history I have purchased the entire series of I Survived

for students to have access too, as well as utilize in

after lunch read alouds. Students will participate in

activities that are grade appropriate to help them

better understand these times in History. In addition

to studying periods of history, we will be using social

studies time to explore elements of social emotional

learning.
In math this year I want to help students strengthen

their memorization of multiplication mental math. We

will also begin working with arrays for multiplication

and helping students multiply large numbers.

I am very excited for this year full of learning with

your child, and I want to work together to make this

year the best it can be for your child. I would like to

invite you each in to be a guest reader throughout the

year in order to show our students the importance of

reading and allow you to be involved in our classroom.

Please keep an eye out for a sign up sheet and other

information I will be sending home, which will always

be sent home on orange paper in order to stand out! I

will also be sending home a monthly newsletter to

keep you updated on what we have been working on in

the classroom.
If you have any questions please reach out to me at

kmarry@sienaheights.edu or send me a message on

Class DoJo!

Let's have a great year together,

Script
Thank you all for coming tonight, it is so nice to finally be able

to put faces to the names on my class list. I am so happy to

see the support these students have with them as well, family

is important to the learning experience and it is great to see

you all here. I am hoping this year will be filled with

interactions that lead to a positive classroom environment for

your students through us working together.

This is my first year teaching completely on my own, but I am

confident that my schooling and clinical hours have prepared

me for this. The school has placed their trust in me, and I hope

you can too. I attended Siena Heights University and studied

Language Arts with a focus in Elementary Education following

my graduation from Hudson High School. I am excited to be

teaching in a small school, much like the one I graduated from,

where I can get to know you and your student better due to

our small class size. Family involvement will help your student

learn and help us extend the curriculum into their lives

outside of school. I am excited to work together to make this

year great!
Within this school we focus on being responsible, respectful

and resilient and this will be a large focus of our classroom. On

the wall behind me you can see our classroom rules and how

students can put these ideas into practice. Per the school

behavior plan students who show what it means to be

respectful, resilient and responsible will receive a bull dog

bone to take to the office to be entered into a drawing to win a

prize. When your student earns a bone I will send a
note home so you are aware of the awesome job your

student is doing in school. On Fridays students names will be

drawn, and the winner is placed on the school facebook page.

If you are comfortable having your child's picture posted

online there is a form for you to fill out in your back to school

packet and return to the office.

Students are the focus of the school and this classroom,

especially showing off their hard work. In this classroom I

have a bulletin board on your left where students each have

a spot to hang up work they are proud of, students can show

off one piece at a time and are welcome to bring work from

home to place on this board if they choose. Students also

have a place to post book reviews above our bookshelves. If

students read a book at home or school they will be able to

complete a book review to hang on the wall, if students want

to borrow a book from my classroom library to read at home

they are able to as well, I just ask that they treat them with

respect and act responsibly and return them.

I am very excited for this year and will be communicating

with you periodically throughout. Notes from me will always

come home on the left side of your students folder and be on

orange paper so they stand out to you. At the end of each

month I will send home a monthly newsletter that goes over

what we have done throughout the month, and what there is

to look forward to in the upcoming month. In these

newsletters you can look at the top right corner for upcoming

ways you can be involved in our classroom. Each month I will

be looking to set up days and times where you can come in

and read to the class, as well as other sign ups for things like

classroom parties. I am very excited for this year with all of

you!

The first week of school we would

be reading "A Letter From Your

School." "Our Class is a Family."

and "How Full is your Bucket." and

these will be on the classroom

shelves for parents to see. I will

trade these books out each

week/month depending on what

read aloud we are doing and the

length of it. This will be a chance

for parents to see what we will be

reading week one.

Three R Posters:

I will point these out

because they are the

for students and I

included examples of

how they can follow this.

I think it is important

parents know that their

child has a specific place
