Composition II.
Logical Argument
Mustang Vs. Camaro
I want to buy an American made muscle car, which one should I choose? The answer is
the Ford Mustang. The Mustang has been around for fifty-two years and has made a legendary
impact on modern day buyers. The current 2015-2016 Mustang models have improved in the
aspects of performance and safety. The Mustangs sales rates has also taken a gigantic leap
forward as of the release of the new, 2015 styling incorporated by Ford. I, personally, own a
2011, grabber orange Mustang. The car is like a dream car to me, and I know from experience
that it is safe, powerful, and an exciting drive that people will not forget. The Mustangs main
opponent has always been the Chevy Camaro. The rivalry between these two cars have been
going on since the Camaros post production in 1966. A variety of individuals claim that the
Camaro is a sensible choice over the Mustang, due to the Camaros styling and overall safety
advantages. I will prove this counter argument to be false by supplying credible information, as a
rebuttal, that demonstrates the facts of the comparison.
The Mustangs performance levels have been substantial from the start. The Mustang has
a variety of engine availabilities that Chevy has not yet came close to with the Camaro. These
engine options that come stock in the Mustangs today range from the V6, to the V8, to the
GT500, and all the way up to the Boss 302 engines. That is to list a few, but the number cranks
up to be a total of ten available engine options for the Mustang. That is a wide range of power
that could raise the juices of anyone searching for a quick thrill or stress reliever on the highway.
That being said, Chevy only supplies the limited three engine options for the Camaro. They are

the V6, V8, and the standard 4-cylinder engines. Today, on the other hand, Ford has continued
the supply of their Mustangs engines with a new four-cylinder, 2.3 liter, turbo engine with
Ecoboost (Auto News). The Ecoboost engine pumps out an estimate of 32 miles per gallon on
regular fuel (Auto News). That is a major advancement Ford has made. This engine alone helps
the performance of the vehicle, the environment by cutting down on fuel emissions, and money
spent on gas by using regular gasoline vs. premium. The 2015-2016 Mustangs have also
advanced in performance with their new suspension and chassis upgrades. Automotive News
said, The 2015 Mustang has taken a leap-frog jump ahead of the Camaro with Ford's advances
in the ponys front and rear suspensions (Auto News). The suspension is lighter, more agile, and
safer in performance when taking pot holes or cracks (Auto News). The Mustangs chassis was
changed within the 2015 models to provide a faster, smoother, and cushioned ride for passengers
(Auto News). The new chassis is describe to heavier in the 2015 models, but as stated by
Automotive News, This pony isnt slowing down any time soon (Auto News). These three,
modern options came into play just before Chevy had taken them into consideration. The
Mustangs current suspension for the front and rear axles as well as the chassis came into
production at the latter portion of 2014 and have succeeded in achieving the projected goals. The
Camaro is now mirroring those tactics, and Chevy has now copied those changes in ways that
will fit the 2016 Camaro.
The sales rates of the Mustang and Camaro models have been fulfilling another rivalry
by staying in comparison with one another for the past two decades. These rating varied by only
a numerical value of about two thousand car sales up until 2014 (International Business Times
(IBT)). Chevy sold 46,672 Camaros in 2014, while Ford sold a close total of 44,231 Mustangs in
the same year (IBT). Those totals, for the first time in years, changed dramatically. It no longer

appeared as a fight for glory in 2015. The glory, the pride, and the increase in profits had been
won. Mustangs sales had raced to the finish with totals equalling 68,290 in sales during the first
half of 2015 (IBT). Camaro held its ground, but sales took a slight decline in response. Chevys
sales totals for the first half of 2015 merely equaled 42,593 Camaros sold (IBT). This enormous
sale change is said to be due to the 2015 Mustangs change in styling (IBT). The Camaro took a
slight cosmetic change for the 2015 models but nothing substantial. Oh, was it a mistake. The
Mustang was now changing its audience away from the latter baby boomers century to the
younger crowds of buyers (IBT). The new, sleek design changes of the current Mustang has
achieved the intended goals, and Ford is feeling the benefits. Sorry, Camaro maybe next year
when ratings are taken again and major design changes are finally made.
The Shelby brand began with Carroll Shelby in 1962 (Auto News). Carroll Shelby
partnered with Ford in the second half of 1964 when the Mustang was created. The Mustang has
been offered in the Shelby models consisting of the Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT350 ever since.
The Shelby Mustangs have been the creation of a new source of speed with engines that are
capable of 800-1,000 horsepower (Auto News). The Shelby models have been, mainly, used for
racing, and the models have always been banned oversees due to their immense power (Auto
News). Today, all that has changed, and Shelby modeled Mustangs are now, professionally, built
and sold overseas in China, England, and South Africa (Auto News). This is now possible thanks
to the Mustangs new 2.3 liter Ecoboost engine (Auto News). This engine provides a maximum
horsepower of 345 when finely tuned (Auto News). This smaller output of power allows the new,
2015-2016 Shelby Mustangs to be built, sold, and driven overseas. This process allows for the
overall sale of Mustangs to increase. It also provides opportunities to sell Shelby Mustang
merchandise overseas (Auto News). This merchandise can include clothing, performance parts,

cosmetic parts, and interior design accessories for the house. Mustangs fan base has now
increased throughout the international world thanks to the late Carroll Shelby (2012) and the
Ford Motor Company. Here is just another reason to choose the credible, safe, powerful, and
internationally advanced Ford Mustang.
One main set of criteria individuals focus on when purchasing a new vehicle is the safety
features, and they consider the overall safety rating of the variety of vehicles. The safest muscle
car out on the roads in the past and today has stayed the same. The slot holder is the Ford
Mustang. The 2015 Mustang has a five star federal safety rating made by the federal government
(Car Connection). Car Connection states, The (NCAP) testing assessment, which includes:
frontal crash, side crash, and rollover results in the Mustang receiving the top overall safety
rating (Car Connection). The Mustang is also, currently, labeled as earning a five star rating in
nearly every subcategory as well, excluding a four star assessment for the Mustangs rear-seat
protection (Car Connection). The 2015 Mustang now contains eight, separate airbags found in
various spots of the cabin (Car Connection). Two of these airbags include advanced knee
protection for both the driver and passenger in the vehicle; this is a new addition to the 20152016 models (Car Connection). All of that in mind, safety should be the top priority for any
driver and car company. Why not choose the the vehicle that is both fun and safe, the Ford
Mustang?
Some people could argue that the Camaro is both stylish to young drivers and safe just
like the Ford Mustang. Individuals could introduce the fact that along with the Mustang
receiving a five star safety rating the Camaro did as well from the federal government (Car
Connection). That is true, the current Camaro and Mustang models both received near perfect
rates when it comes to safety, but what about the real-world results. According to USA Today the

Camaro is the number sixt most likeliest car to kill you (Woodyard). The Ford Mustang was not
found on that list, nor ever mentioned as a safety hazard by Chris Woodland, an author for USA
Today. The Camaro is said to be dangerous due to its limited safety features, and its weak chassis
that can buckle under intense real-life impacts (Woodland). The Camaro results in approximately
eighty per one million driver deaths among the past five years (Woodland). Safety features and
technology is on the right track for the Camaro, but with those numbers and lost lives I would
not risk my life or my family's in any Camaro. As far as the style of the Camaro being equally
preferred to the Mustang goes, the facts speak for themselves. The totals were 68,290 Mustangs
sold compared to only 42,593 Camaros sold to the younger generation market in the first half of
2015 (IBM). That proves that the style preference for young drivers lean toward the Mustang,
and the overall styling of the two vehicles are not comparable.
Overall, when trying to decide which muscle car to buy your children, spouse, or
yourself, go the sensible route and choose the Ford Mustang. The Mustang wins out in overall
variety, style, safety, performance, sales, and of course reliability. The Camaro has been a
competitor for the Mustang ever since 1966, and the battle will forever continue on due to new
advancements and individuals preferences. Make the decision easy. When it comes down to the
thing that matters most in life, which is safety, choose the muscle that will protect you, the newly,
equipped Ford Mustang.
