Gender studies and Psychoanalytic

" For example, gender studies and psychoanalytic criticism maintains that cultural
definition of sexuality and what it means to be male and female." - this is what I
understood overall from the notes.
"How a woman is viewed then and now" mainly what I am aiming for.

7. Quia ergo femina, Antiphon

" Because a woman brought death
A bright maiden overcame it,
And so the highest blessing
In all of creation
Lies in the form of a woman,
Since God has become man
in a sweet and blessed virgin.
The woman has always seem to be living in a man's world. From the beginning of
time to present day. In the quote from Hildegard of Bingen " Quia ergo femina,
Antiphon " Hildegard talks about a woman ( eve) brought death, referring to when
she brought the temptation of eating the apple, and causing her and Adam to
become immortal. But disregarding that women were blamed for the cause of
death, the next part of the quote she talks about a bright maiden ( the Vergin Marry)
who made up for it by having created the highest blessing ( God's son). Although,
still having brought a part of god into this world, Man still is viewed more dominant
than women. The woman only has her value because she created the life of a very
praised man. Her recognition was mostly because of this man's birth rather, than
her own for what kind of person she was. No cares to think what she did to receive
this gift from god, or what singled her out. Which is much like today society, women
will have some kind of discovery, but in the end it always asked where the real
mastermind is ( the man). It seems as if woman could not progress without a man.
Her book evolved around that topic of God and being part of everyone's life, and
God being a man seems as if male is the preferred gender.
I was heading for the since beginning of time women have always seem to rely of
men. And even when its the woman creating the man, it makes it seem like it was a
blessing for her to have had the chance to be part of it. Feel free to change the
wording around if you like. And for the citation part, the book called Hildegard of
Bingen: selective writing , page 118.

Psychoanalytic criticism
" The notion that humans beings are motivated, even driven by desires, fears,
needs, and conflicts of which they are unaware.."(tyson 1415) owl. English.
Purdue.edu
Id- the location of ones drives
Ego- one of the major defenses against the power of the drives.
Super ego- the area of the unconscious that house judgment( of self and others)
^ this is pretty much what my understanding of psychoanalytic is.
"how women( Hildegard) are brought up to be"
In the book Hildegard of Bingen it talk about how Hildegard was raised and
educated by very religious people. So you would expect her life to evolve around
religion and every characteristic about it. Although she was a very well educated
woman and praised, it seem she unconsciously promoted the man's dominance.
She did not ever physically say that men were better, but because her work is
mostly in the religious field she talked a lot about God. Her message of god was
what she try to get through. Although in talk about god and making him the topic of
most of her work, she brought out his value. And because god is seen in the form of
a man, in a way promotes how his gender is superior. Her lifestyle was just so
revolved around this view; about god being the right path to follow. Which in today
date, many people still praise God, but also believed that men are shown to be
superior because of the fact that God was a guy. Which is one of the causes of many
unfair act towards woman. Setting the role of a male figure to one of the most
praised and worship religions, can send a wrong message.
1. The omnipotence of God pg 11.
"The shining fire which you see represents the omnipotent living god, whose light
filled brightness is never obscured by any evil. He remains unfathomable'. Because,
and he is without beginning or end, not to be comprehended by any glimmer of
creaturely knowledge. And he remains ' inextinguishable, for he is the plenitude
which never reaches an end, and he is fully alive,' since he does not know about,
and existing full of life,' for everything that is alive draws it life from him, as job
declares and speaks by my inspiration."
In this quote she goes on about how nothing would be without this man, and this
man (God) is what created everything, and why he should be let into someone's life.
