The Liturgy of the Palms and Daily Morning Prayer: Rite II

Officiant: Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the
Lord.
People: Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.

Officiant: Let us pray.

Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our

salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the
contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby you
have given us life and immortality; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Palm Gospel

Matthew: 21:1-11

Officiant: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.
Officiant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Officiant: It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of

love by which you have redeemed us through your
Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the
holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed
as King of kings by those who spread their garments
and branches of palm along his way. Let these
branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that
we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as
our King, and follow him in the way that leads to
eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you
and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Officiant: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.
Officiant: Let us go forth in peace.
People: In the name of Christ. Amen.

Officiant: Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to

joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into
glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that
we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none
other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Confession of Sin
BCP 79

Officiant: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Officiant and People together: Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Invitatory and Psalter

Officiant: Lord, open our lips.

People: And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Officiant and People together: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Spirit: as it
was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen.

Venite

Come, let us sing to the Lord;

let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,

and a great King above all gods.
In his hands are the caverns of the earth,
and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of
his hand.
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice.

The Psalm Psalm 31:9-16

BCP 623

Officiant and People together: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Spirit: as it
was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen.
The Lessons

Isaiah 50:4-9a

The First Song of Isaiah

Surely, it is God who saves me; *

I will trust in him and not be afraid.
For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense, *
and he will be my Savior.
Therefore you shall draw water with rejoicing *
    from the springs of salvation.
And on that day you shall say, *
    Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name;
Make his deeds known among the peoples; *
see that they remember that his Name is exalted.
Sing the praises of the Lord, for he has done great
things, *
and this is known in all the world.
Cry aloud, inhabitants of Zion, ring out your joy, *
for the great one in the midst of you is the Holy
One of Israel.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy
Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for
ever. Amen.

Matthew 27:11-54
The Sermon
The Apostles’ Creed
BCP 96

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth;
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers

Officiant: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time

with one
accord to make our common supplication to you; and
you
have promised through your well-beloved Son that
when two
or three are gathered together in his Name you will
be in the
midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and
petitions
as may be best for us; granting us in this world
knowledge of
your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting.
Amen.

Officiant: Let us bless the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God.

Officiant: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
