Dear Parent/Carer
We are organising a Science/Geography trip for next year during the Easter Holidays, April 2017, to
Iceland.
The cost of the trip will be in the region of 750, which includes; 3 nights at Hotel Cabin and 4 days
of activities. Day one will consist of traveling and a trip to the Blue Lagoon. Day 2 involves a guided
tour around DeCODE Genetics where they produce cures for many genetic disorders, followed by a
look around the Geothermal Power Plant and some of the natural wonders that Iceland has to offer.
Day 3 is a trip to the coast where we will look at waterfalls and glaciers with the chance to walk
along the black sand beach. Day 4 will be the journey home. On any one of the evenings there is
also the chance to see the Northern Lights but the night for this will be chosen nearer the trip so that
we can get the best chance of seeing them. The accommodation is full board so the meals are paid
for in the cost. A deposit of 150 will be required once the place on the trip has been confirmed. The
payment will be through Parent Pay. We estimate that the trip will be oversubscribed, and where
this happens a selection process will take place to ensure that a fair opportunity will be given to all
students. Behaviour and age will also be taken into account when selecting the students.
This is an excellent opportunity to further the life experiences of your son or daughter. Please
indicate on the reply slip if your son/daughter is interested in attending the Iceland trip in April 2017.
An information meeting will be arranged with the Armthorpe Academy staff attending the trip, which
will provide more information on the activities that will take place on. This meeting will be arranged
after the Interest slips are handed in on 17th May 2016.
