Recreational therapy, also known as therapeutic recreation, is


a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activitybased interventions to address the assessed needs of
individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions, as a
means to psychological and physical health, recovery and
well-being

Licensing and Certification


Only in Utah, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and New
Hampshire is licensing offered. However every TR can/
should obtain a certification from the NCTRC (National
Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification).

Education
In TR it is crucial that you attend
higher education. Higher education
allows you to earn your licensure.
If in any of the states that dont
offer licensure for TR then a
certification course from NCTRC
would be acceptable.
