List the lesson learning target(s)/objective(s) [connect each target/objective to the appropriate state curriculum/content area
standards.
Students will create a variety of different sea creatures made from woven paper strips
Students will connect the information obtained through the project to other subject areas such as science. In many areas,
science does not appear in the curriculum until 7th grade.
Students will understand some of the basic techniques of weaving with paper that will prepare them for the next level of
weaving activities
2. Pre-assessment (1F)
Describe the pre-assessment(s) used to establish students baseline knowledge and skills for this lesson.
Ask the class as a whole if anyone has ever experience weaving paper outside of the class and if so, describe the activity and
how they felt about doing it.
The teacher will also ask if the students have any experience with other paper works such as origami or paper dolls.
Relate these experience to the sea creature project
3. Formative Assessment (1F)
Describe and include the formative assessment(s) to be used to measure student progress during this lesson.
Students will be able to demonstrate within reason their capabilities of working with paper weaving.
Students will also be assessed on how they can apply their own creative touch to the project
Small show-and-tell critique after projects are complete
4. Resources (1D)
Identify the resources including appropriate technology needed for the lesson.
Students will utilize the computer to look at different creatures they may want to create
Handouts with written instruction
Construction paper
Scissors, glue, and glitter
5. Lesson Procedures (1E)
Describe the sequence in which the differentiated strategies/activities and/or assessments will be used to engage your
students and facilitate attainment of the lesson objective(s) and promote higher order thinking.
The Teacher will start by asking and prompting questions mentioned in the pre-assessment and asking students about
their past experiences with paper weaving.
Next, the teacher will give an introduction to this specific project by showing students the different wildlife they can
create.
The teacher will then pass out the supplies and the instruction sheet.
The teacher will provide a short demo for a few select creatures to show to the class as well
The students will work one to two class periods on the project before the small critique is held and any closing
remarks are made

6. Watch For------Identify anything that you would like specifically observed during this lesson.
I would like to observe any students who have never worked with paper weaving find inspiration in the assignment or to
discover that this may be an option for them.
Also for students who may be familiar with this type of assignment to find a new way of seeing the material
