How to Create a Formula on a TI Nspire Cx
Introduction: Basic level of knowledge of calculator button layout is expected for these instructions.
Materials Needed: TI Nspire Cx
Steps
1. Obtain calculator and power on
2. Open a New Document
3. Add Calculator to document
4. Press doc and 4 for insert
5. Press A for program editor
6. Type the name of formula to be created in Name:
7. Change Type: to function
8. Leave Library access: as none
9. This will bring up a split screen, blank on left & define, func, and end func on right (Pictured below)
10. Next to Define & the name of your formula type the variables in the formula with letters
11. Below define, type return, as this will make the function work when entered and the return key it pressed to
receive an answer
12. Using the book button, located below the del button
13. Search for the correct format for the formula
14. Enter the formula with associated variables from Step 10
15. After the formula is entered press ctrl & b to save the document
16. Scroll to the left screen that is blank
17. Type the name of your formula and add parenthesis
18. In the parenthesis enter numbers separated by commas, to fit the variables in the created formula
19. Press return and observe the answer to the equation
20. Repeat steps 16, 17, & 18 for accuracy of the created function (Pictured below)
21. Use known values in an equation that has already been solved to check your work
22. After multiple test problems, again press ctrl & b to save the document
23. Exit out of your document by using the home/on button
24. Find your saved document for further use, under the saved documents tab of the home screen.
