Lesson Plan Persuasion

Guiding Standards:

Unit of Study:
Argument structure and Information backup
Assessment:
1. Students will be graded on their ability to answer the statement in which they can
persuade other students to come to their side.

Materials:
Student: None
Teacher: 4 Corner signs
Objective/Goal:
1. Get the students to understand how to participate in a group discussion. Or in
other words to get everyone involved. Also, we need to get people to persuade their
classmates to change their opinion on the general statement.
Motivation/Warm-up:
1. Students will come in and sit down.
2. They will be presented with a statement, which then they will go into one of the
four corners that they think is the best for himself. They will then answer the question to
the best of their ability.
Procedure:
1. The students are asked a question and then will relocate to a corner corresponding
to their answer. Then, they will explain their points of view using the essay to back up
their points.
Summary
The students will do a four corners debate a question about the Barkley Marathon. Then we will
have them state their opinions and see if they agree or disagree with their fellow classmates.
Then were having each side of the discussion try to get the other students to their side by
persuading that their reasons are the correct ones.
