Reflection
Ever since I went into high school I have always been interested in drugs. Not in a way
like I want to take drugs and experiment with them but in a way that I was curious to know
how they worked, why they worked the way that they did, and how come people become
interested in these substances. So when I was looking through the courses I could take for this
semester, and found Life, Society, and Drugs as a choice I became quickly interested.
I learned so much in this course, there was so much information that we got from the
instructor. We learned about 10 main drugs and then branched out into some of the drugs related
to the ten drugs that we talked about. We took quizzes, study questions we had to fill out, and we
about 6 projects we had to do. As we learned about a drug every week, we learned about how it
affects that brain and body, short and long term effects, and some more information related to the
specific drug we were learning at that time. Most of the projects we had to were based on one
specific drug of our choice. We had to do research on it a learn the ins an outs of the drug. For
our signature assignment at the end of the semester we had to do a research project and a
PowerPoint presentation to present in front of the class.
I am fairly positive I will be able to apply the information I learned throughout this
course in my life. For now, I am hopefully going to go into Social Work so the information I now
have will be useful to me so I can help families who are struggling with substance abuse. I will
also be able to help anyone who is close to me and abusing drugs by informing them of the
dangers and helping them in getting help.
