Nehemiah

Intro

Appointed by King Artaxerxes to become the Governor if


Jerusalem, and became one of the greatest leaders of Judah after
the exile.

His book in the bible was written in 445 B.C. from his private
journal.

People shopped on the Sabbath while farmers and merchants did


not keep the Sabbath.

Buying and selling on the Sabbath was forbidden by the third


commandment, according to the book of Exodus, the penalty for
doing so in the time of Moses was death.

message given

Tells the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the walls and they accept

Nehemiah makes the wealthy people do what he says and give


back to the poor because wealthy kinsmen were molesting the
daughters of the hard working men

While the men work on the wall, Nehemiah takes the liberty of
setting out food and wine for the workers in honor of building the
wall

Nehemiah had two final forms, they are buying and selling on the
Sabbath was forbidden, and insisting that Jews may not marry
foreigners

He reformed the Jewish people by rebuilding the walls and by


keeping them faithful to one god

When Nehemiah heard about the walls of Jerusalem being burnt


to the ground he called to god and prayed to him to know what
to do next and when god spoke to Nehemiah he went straight to
Jerusalem and spoke to the people about rebuilding the wall in
honor of the lord

fails to keep his promise, and may he thus be shaken out and
emptied! And the whole assembly answered, Amen, and
praised the Lord. Then the people did as they promised.
