To this point, I have yet to think much about the semester long project. I do not know what kind
of topic I would like to do.
1/21/16
I feel like I can connect with the topic that I have selected. I really enjoy Carowinds and I myself
have seen it grow because I have had season tickets since I was a kid. My group did the cluster
and conversing.

I feel that it is very important for us to choose a topic that we are interested in. I feel that it most
definitely affects our quality of work. I have been lucky to this point and I have never had to
write a research paper or do a research project on something that I was not interested in because I
have always had the opportunity to choose my topic. I look forward to making new friends while
completing the project.

Last semester, in my ENGR 1201 class, we had assigned groups in which we completed two
different projects. One member of the group always had a reason for being late or absent to team
meetings. It honestly did not bother the rest of the group though because he just made everyone
else mad while he was there. He thought he was smarter than everyone else in the group but
never even paid attention to the discussions we would have.

I was writing a research paper about Ronald Reagan during my junior year of high school.
During the research process, I found a website that had facts about his birth, young life,
presidency, and many other things that he did. This was perfect for my paper because it had all of
the main points I wanted to make.

I had a job and the biggest things that were expected out of me were to be there, be on time,
work hard, and always find something to do to stay busy.

I first began using computers for AR tests when I was in kindergarten. This was at school. My
first experience with powerpoint was in the sixth grade. I have very positive thoughts about
presentation tools.

Procrastination makes easy things hard, and hard things harder. Procrastination has a major
impact on my academic life here at UNCC. There are so many things that I enjoy doing and this
causes me to sometimes push off my assignments until the last minute. When I do this, I have to
rush my work in order to meet the deadline. Often times, my rushed work is not good work and it
shows in my grades.

The quote that really intrigues me is If you steal from an author its plagiarism; if you steal
many its research by Wilson Mizner. This quote, I feel, is true because if you use the ideas of
just one person, your ideas really are only their ideas. On the other hand, if you conduct research

based on many different authors, you are able to form your own ideas based on the an abundance
of information.

1.) The jobs it brings to the Charlotte area. We will do this by explaining how Carowinds has
grown and continues to have to hire new people.
2.) Featured Rides. We will talk about some of the big new rides introduced in the last few
years. We will also talk about some of the most popular classics.
3.) Tourism
4.) Revenue
5.) Scarowinds

I feel very sluggish at school. I am behind on some of my work and I am often up late at night
trying to do assignments or study for tests that I have the next day. Yes, I do think Spring Break
will help. It will give me a chance to catch up on my work and still get a reasonable amount of
sleep. I do feel differently than I did at the beginning. I was excited about starting a new chapter
in my life and now I just feel like I am trying to keep up with all of the stuff that I have to do.
3/17/16
My group is going to talk about Scarowinds as one of our subtopics in the semester long project.
Scarowinds is a seasonal event around Halloween in which they decorate the park in scary things
and have haunted trails throughout the park. This event brings in a lot of money and tourism. It
also creates many seasonal jobs for people in the area.

This is a basketball player from the 1980s. He played point guard mostly. He was about 69. He
was a National Champion at Michigan State University. He played for the Dream Team in
1992. During his NBA career, he played for the LA Lakers. He was diagnosed with HIV making
him retire. The name that most people know him by is his nickname.

A difficult decision for me that I recently made was where I wanted to work this summer. It was
a tough decision because I could work for the county that I live in which is where I have worked
for years. I would also make slightly more money at this job. I also have the opportunity to work
in the shop for the same steel company that my dad works for. Since I am a Civil Engineering
major, it would look better and possibly lead to internships and other jobs. I have chosen to work
for the steel company.
4/14/16
I have started putting together the website but I have not done any of the extra things that we
have to do.
4/19/16
My group for the semester long project was good about communication. We always knew when
our meetings were and were notified in advance if someone was not going to be able to make it
to one of them.

This has not only been an issue during my time here at UNCC, but it has
been magnified in my first year of college. I feel like this is because the work is already so much
harder and there is so much more of it to do. It did not affect me much in high school because
everything came so easy to me. Here at UNCC, however, I may be able to put studying, projects,
or homework off until the last minute, but my grades often show it if I do. This year and the
grades I have received have really shown me how much higher the quality of my work is when I
do not try to put it off and then have to rush through it. My best example is in my Calculus II
class. My first test I kept up with my notes very well and looked back over them often throughout
the chapter. On that test I got an 86. I then, for some reason, thought that I did not have to do
that for the second test. I waited until the night before the test to try to cram everything back into
my brain and I got a 64 on that test.

The quote that really intrigues me is If you steal from an author its plagiarism; if you steal
many its research by Wilson Mizner. This quote, I feel, is true because if you use the ideas of
just one person, your ideas really are only their ideas. On the other hand, if you conduct research
based on many different authors, you are able to form your own ideas based on an abundance of
information. I feel like this is much like a detective trying to solve a crime. A detective does not

simply ask on person who committed the crime and assume that the person is right
automatically. He has to work on the case for quite a while to get many different perspectives.
Once he has heard many different peoples points of view, he can then begin to think about all of
the things that he has learned. It is the same thing with research. Different people are biased for
different sides of an argument for different reasons. If you take the time and the effort to research
the material well enough to gather all of the facts and see different points of view, you can then
begin to form your own opinion on the topic.
