Party of the Century

Many groups will have set unrealistic goals and
plans for events. This activity will help them
revise a plan so that it is realistic and still
eventful.
Take a few seconds to think of the BEST birthday
party you can imagine. There are probably
lights, a DJ, free pop, and massive stack of pizza
rolls!
When I say go, within your officer team, plan a
party. Take the next two songs to plan an amazing
birthday party for your advisor. Record every
detail in your workbook. Make sure it is the party
of the century! What questions are there? GO!
...
How did the planning process go?
Elicit student responses
Good, when I give you the go-ahead you will
examine the plan with your team. **reveal flip
chart with editing instructions**
-Any parts of the plan that will cost over $500,
circle.
-Any parts of the plan that will take up more than
an acre of land, underline.
-Finally, strikeout any plans that are not feasible.
-If you have any discrepancies, ask a facilitator
and we will decide.
What can I clarify? Take the time of the next song
to revise your plan.
Re-gain attention
Raise your hand if you think your groups party is
still the party of the century?
What differences do we see between our first
party plan, and our revised plan?
Elicit student responses **Process to at first it
was really neat, but it was not realistic. Now our

plan is realistic and still pretty neat!

Transition
What will I say to help
participants move from the
Engagement into Wisdom 1 of
the workshop?

The same thing can happen to our chapter event

plans. No worries! We will be taking time to
examine our own plans for the chapter this year.
Soon enough, you will have fun, and manageable,
events planned for the members.

Reveal Flip Chart with an example of a detailed

POA event.
Together with your teammates, we will work
through each chapter event to gather nuggets of
information to help make the event successful.
For example: Our chapter banquet could have
bullet points of:
1) Invitation/Thank You Committee, Meal
Committee, Award Committee
2) Reserve auditorium by Jan. 1st
3) Ask local grocery store to donate meal
The POA Playbook
For each event on your POA, create 3-5 bullet
points of information to remember at the time of
the event. This will help us make the planning
process nice and easy!

the Wisdom 2 Main Point?

I encourage you to make these edits to your

POA on a computer so this information will be
here next year.
Use your time wisely! Only spend a few minutes
on each event. We will take 15-20 minutes to
complete our POA edits.
Focus on upcoming events. If you have extra
time, go back to your past events and record for

Audible Call
As we make our mid-year goals, think about the
things we can improve on. Maybe our goals can
be revisions to previous goals that were
unattainable. If you have a chapter mission
statement, take a look at it to help create a goal
to align with that, for example. Put some
thought into this with your teammates and
remember to be SMART!
All the work we did today will help make the
rest of our school year a breeze! Its exciting to
know everything our chapters will be doing for
the members, school, and community.

1 to Wisdom 2?

Lets get a huge round of applause for

everything weve done!

Final Review

If your team wasnt able to complete and activity,

please take some time to finish up. It will be a
huge help to yourselves in the future.

Approximately 1 minutes

Remember, we took some time to evaluate our

chapter goals.
How will I re-phrase my key
Wisdom points at the end?
What closing thoughts will I
offer the participants?
What is the final call to action
for the participants?
What do I want the participants
to remember?

We made playbook for our POA so that future

planning is a piece of cake.
And a few minutes ago we made some new goals
to get on track to success for the rest of the year.
