Revised Project (Writing Prompt 3)
Although we do learn in the classroom, there are many other places and ways we can
expand our knowledge and learn new things. In the summer of 2015 I worked at the local YMCA
where Im from. I learned many new skills and see how this business was ran. At the time, I was
in the pre-nursing program at UNC Charlotte. However, after working with the staff at the
YMCA, I began questioning my choice in major. I began to think maybe the business field
would be a better fit for me.
Working with this business provided me with some great learning experiences. I learned
how to work with others and be in charge of certain tasks and activities. By the end of the
summer I decided to change my major from pre-nursing to pre-business. I have been able to take
this experience and apply it here at UNC Charlotte. Ive been able to communicate and work
with other students much better than I thought I would due to my job at the YMCA. Working
through the YMCA also helped me feel more comfortable speaking with others, and Ive been
able to implement this new skill in class presentations. Ive developed more confidence when
speaking to an audience, however there is much more room for improvement. Overall, I think
this job equipped me for going on to college.

Furthermore, I am very thankful for being able to have the experience of working at the
YMCA. I am happy with my new choice of major, and now how a plan of declaring in the spring
of 2017 with a concentration in marketing. Im able to work well with others with more
comfortability and confidence, and this will continue well into my future.
I chose this writing prompt three as my revised project because I think this is one of my
poorer pieces of work this semester. I wanted to add more length to the assignment and go into
more detail in some areas. Also, this past semester I have decided I want to concentrate in
marketing, where before I wanted to concentrate in management. You advised me to talk more
about how I could take my learnings and apply it to my experience here at UNC Charlotte, so
Ive gone back and added more detail about how I could take my new skills and apply them in
my schooling.
