Title: Dead Poets Society

Author / Director / Poet / Lyricist, etc. (if known): Peter Weir

Context (Where Found / Viewed / Read . . . Variety of Sources, please, vis-a-vis Google Images only)
I rented it on itunes and watched it in my room on a sunday around noon.

Content / CD / Summary (Say? Plot? Setting / Situation? Key lines / Phrases, Scenes, etc? )
This movie is about students at a very rigorous and intense school who become inspired by an English teacher
who tells them to think freely. Mr Keating is not a normal teacher at this prep school, and he has strange
teaching methods that encourage his students to become free thinkers. The story evolves around Neil Perry
and Todd Anderson. Neil revives the Dead Poets Society, a secret society.
Content / CM / Meaning? / Theme(s)?
The theme of this movie is not letting society tell you how to think. The society of this movie is the school, and
this society is strict, disciplined, honored, and excellent. Instead of conforming to the school's ways, the
students take advantage of their time. This movie encourages us to seize the day instead of sitting around
doing nothing.
Form (Diction? Construction Terms? Symbolism?) This section MUST be filled out for poems taken from the
AP Poetry packet provided prior to first library visit.
This movie is interesting because it follows many different main characters who all share common interests.
Keating is a symbol for being free thinkers.

Commentary: Why like? Poetic Traits? Relevance / Connections / Allusions (Lit, Bib, Myth, Histor, Other) /
Relevance to personal experience, 20Qs? etc.)?
I like it because I think that I really relate to it and I see many kids just doing what the society tells them to
do. I think that should be changed so that we can make decisions for ourselves and learn to think for
ourselves just like in OFK.
